Oh my dear, have I got a whopper for you
hmm well it would be nice if i could REACH at least 1k in benchmark *cough*
Hi everyone, I am new here. My family plays a lot of games online and we notices how terrible framerate can be in some of these games. So anyhoo... we downloaded 3DMark03. I am somewhat new to all this computer lingo stuff, but have a small foundation of it. The marks came out to be 922 3D marks. *cry* http://service.futuremark.com/servle...projectType=10 here it is copied with my specs in case link doesn't work. Any HELP would be greatly appreciated. I know i need to upgrade my processor. However I thought by going from Geforce 4ti 4200 to Geforce fx 5200 256 DDR 128bit would have made a great difference, the games seem much much worse now! And anyway my old geforce 4 is dead so I can't go back to it >< any suggestions of what to do for my system? What is most important to invest in or upgrade or fix or change?? And what would you suggest all you wonderful godly computer savy people ! :) Thank you... 3DMark03 Project Details Project Info Name Description Date 2003-12-17 Published » Full System Details » Export Results in XML System Configuration General Information Operating System Microsoft Windows XP DirectX Version 9.0b Mobo Manufacturer Mobo Model KT400-8235 AGP Rates (Current/Available) 0x / 4x, 8x CPU AMD Athlon(tm) Processor 1200 MHz FSB 100 MHz Memory 1024 MB Display Information Graphics Chipset NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Driver Name NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Driver Version 5.2.1.6 Driver WHQL Certified Yes Video Memory 256 MB Core Clock 250 MHz Memory Clock 333 MHz Sound Information Sound Adapter Driver Name C-Media Wave Device Sound Adapter Driver Version 5.12.1.31 Benchmark Settings Program Version 3DMark03 Revision 4 Build 0 Resolution 1024x768@32 bit Texture Filtering Optimal Pixel Processing / Antialiasing None Post Processing false Vertex Shaders Optimal Main Test Results 3DMark Score 922 3DMarks CPU Score 182.0 CPUMarks Detailed Test Results Game Tests GT1 - Wings of Fury 52.2 fps GT2 - Battle of Proxycon 4.5 fps GT3 - Troll's Lair 4.2 fps GT4 - Mother Nature 4.7 fps CPU Tests CPU Test 1 20.8 fps CPU Test 2 3.2 fps Feature Tests Fill Rate (Single-Texturing) 505.3 MTexels/s Fill Rate (Multi-Texturing) 687.5 MTexels/s Vertex Shader 4.1 fps Pixel Shader 2.0 7.2 fps Ragtroll 3.3 fps Sound Tests No sounds Not Supported 24 sounds Not Supported 60 sounds Not Supported |
heh im sorry for you but going from Geforce 4ti 4200 to Geforce fx 5200 256 DDR 128bit is a big downgrade !!
You could notice minimal speed increase starting from GFFX 5600 Ultra cards compared to GF 4 Consider these cards as upgrade Nvidia 5600 Ultra , 5700+ , 5900+.... or Radeon 9600Pro, 9700+, 9800+.... |
The moral of the story, is never think a newer product is a better product, do your reserch
|
hmmm... which would be better:
Geforce FX 5600 Ultra with 128MB DDR GeForce FX 5600XT with 256MB DDR I think the basic difference here is one has more DDR memory, but not sure difference between Ultra and regular is. This computer is mostly used for gaming online which can be graphic intense: Everquest, Dark Age Of camelot, Diablo etc etc etc which would be a better card AND would this be better than the Geforce 4 TI 4200 and the card I currently have? |
XT= good for ATI
XT= bad for nvidia, lower clocks ETC right now memory is not an issue at 128 megs 5600 ultra would be a better choice, but the best may be a 9600XT (ATI), or a 9700pro, which i have. it's quite nice |
hmm, i think I have a lot more saving up to do lol...
btw in reference to your sig... men love evil, since they love us gals :) |
Ah crap, we have a lady here. Kidding :) look me up, heres a shot :) (kidding)

Peace, :rofl |

Radeon 9600Pro/XT > Geforce FX 5600 Ultra with 128MB DDR > GeForce FX 5600XT with 256MB DDR Ati best from all of the above , offcourse you can save some more and get better card though.... |
If you can try both ATI and Nvidia. Just make sure you can get a refund. Your allways gona get someone that will say ATI is better or Nvidia is better. Just because it runs great on there system does not mean it will run good on yours. If I were you I would save my money because a 5200 would be just flushing your money. We have some new cards coming out like the XGI and that should bring ATI and Nvidia down a little I would think.

Ti 4200 better then FX 5900?
The benchmarks speak for themselves
I got a PNY GeForce FX 5900 128MB and it runs slower than my PNY GeForce4 Ti 4200 64MB Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Professional OS Service Pack Service Pack 1 Internet Explorer 6.0.2800.1106 (IE 6.0 SP1) Motherboard: CPU Type AMD Athlon XP, 2000 MHz (7.5 x 267) 2400+ Motherboard Name Asus A7V266-C (5 PCI, 1 AGP, 3 DIMM) Motherboard Chipset VIA VT8366A Apollo KT266A System Memory 768 MB (DDR SDRAM) BIOS Type Award Medallion (10/15/02) Communication Port Communications Port (COM1) Communication Port Communications Port (COM2) Communication Port ECP Printer Port (LPT1) Display: Video Adapter NVIDIA GeForce FX 5900 (128 MB) 3D Accelerator nVIDIA GeForce FX 5900 Monitor Plug and Play Monitor [NoDB] (1321249529) Multimedia: Audio Adapter Creative SB Live! Guess I'll stick with my 4200 and pack away the 5900 until DX9 becomes mainstream. |
