twinview and fonts
managed to install the 1.0-4496 driver here on my suse 9.0 linux (currently gnome desktop) on my athlon xp 2500+ based computer with a asus a7n8x deluxe 2.0 board.
i finally managed to activate twinview and the two 19" TFT monitors that are attached to my geforce 5600 based asus card (two dvi outputs).
however, fonts are a problem. fonts in menus, on buttons below icons etc. were looking good before I activated twinview. but now they're awfully small! a capital letter is about 5 pixel high and I can hardly read things.
here in the webbrowser the fonts are perfect! the fonts in window titlebars are okay, too.
is there a link to the DisplaySize parameter in the "Monitor" section in the XF86Config file? I measured my two monitors and entered the line
DisplaySize 752 310
In the Screen section I have just one Mode:
But my actual physical horizontal resolution is, of course, now with twinview 2560x1024. Do I have to enter this number 2560 somewhere? If so: where?
Here are the options in my Device section regarding twinview that I entered:
Option "SecondMonitorHorizSync" "28-95"
Option "SecondMonitorVertRefresh" "40-70"
Option "MetaModes" "1280x1024,1280x1024"
Anyone any hint?
Thanks a lot!
I don't use twin-view, so I'm not sure, but I suspect you are on the right track. You'll want to keep playing with the display size until the calculated DPI gets down to what you want.
$ xdpyinfo | grep "dots per inch"
resolution: 74x74 dots per inch
Will tell you what your resolution is. You might find that its not symetrical, if the twin view thing is confusing things. Look in your XFree log files (/var/log/XFree86.0.log for Red Hat using gdm) for the ddc section.
(**) NVIDIA(0): Display dimensions: (543, 407) mm
(WW) NVIDIA(0): Probed monitor is 360x270 mm, using Displaysize 543x407 mm
(**) NVIDIA(0): DPI set to (74, 74)
Hope this helps.
