Newbie - Red Hat 8 Kernel Upgrade/Driver Confusion
I currently run Red Hat 8 and would like to upgrade to the 2.4.20 kernel. When I try to do this via the Red Hat Network I get the following error message -

Unresolvable chain of dependencies:
NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-4191.rh80up requires kernel = 2.4.18-14
So could someone give me a simple step by step guide to upgrading the kernel and nvidia drivers ? Thanks in advance.:)

I suggest you get the latest Nvidia driver. Run the installer and if it needs to rebuild it for your running kernel, it will do that automatically. Provided you have also installed the kernel source as well.

The RedHat updater will download and install the new kernel for you. Just make sure that you also download the kernel source.

If you don't have the kernel source installed, you can run the following from a terminal window or command line.

up2date --install kernel-source

This will go get the latest kernel source and install it.
