Half Life 2 prelim benchies with 5x.xx?

A month or so ago Anand had an article with prelim unconfirmed benchies on HL2 with FX5950 vs 9800XT on 5x.xx drivers. Anyone have a link to that story or the benchmark?

it was in his pseudo-blog thing...

Anyone know anything about whatever happened to that HL2 benchmark that was supposed to be released? Ain't there even a couple of copies of it floating around in the wild somewhere? (I haven't found any, and I have LOOKED! :( )

I created a thread about that a while back also...... where the hell is my HL2 benchmark program DAMN IT!!!

It disappeared into thin air with no explanation. Oh well. I'd rather they release a version that has maps with HDR lighting effects in it at this point.

"Mixed mode" means they are doing mixed FP16/FP32 precision instead of constant FP32 precision all the time which would run incredibly slow on NV3x hardware. ATI does FP24 all the time, which is lower than Nvidia's FP32 in mixed mode but higher than their FP16 in mixed mode.

See. There are two kinds of "mixed modes." With regards to HL2, you are wrong in that it IS mixing DX8 and DX9 level shaders. Some people refer to the use of _pp flags as a sort of mixed mode, but that's not really mixed mode.

So yes. The NV cards are using mostly DX8 shaders and some DX9 shaders.

There are two mixed modes in HL2. One is DX9 and one is DX9/DX8.
