Help with AGP 4x please
I have recently installed Mdk 9 final build and have installed the latest Nivida drivers for my Geforce 4 4400 and started reading about editing the os-registry.c file. Where is this file found? I want to enable 4x AGP to see if that helps with the UT2003 demo in linux.
Thanks for any help!
PS: If this has been posted before, I apologize. If you just send me the link, that would be helpful, too.
It's part of the .tar.gz install for NVIDIA_kernel.
You have to edit it, then install the NVIDIA_kernel, and you have to do it by .tar.gz (actually, SRPM might work, but I've never tried that).
In order to be able to compile the .tar.gz NVIDIA_kernel, you need to have installed your distro's kernel-source RPM (make sure the version of kernel-source that you install matches the output of uname -r). With Mandrake 9, that means you need CD 2 and 3, because kernel-source is on 3, and it requires ncurses-devel, which is on 2. It probably also requires other packages (a compiler and the make program, at least), so if you haven't installed those (the development "stuff" is what the installer calls it), then you might want to restart the installer, tell it you're doing an upgrade, and install most of the development stuff.
editing of the named file (os-registry.c ) is _not_
needed (at least not for setting following values:
parm: NVreg_VideoMemoryTypeOverride int
parm: NVreg_EnableVia4x int
parm: NVreg_EnableALiAGP int
parm: NVreg_ReqAGPRate int
parm: NVreg_UpdateKernelAGP int
parm: NVreg_EnableAGPSBA int
parm: NVreg_EnableAGPFW int
parm: NVreg_SoftEDIDs int
parm: NVreg_Mobile int
parm: NVreg_ResmanDebugLevel int
parm: NVreg_FlatPanelMode int
parm: NVreg_SyncCrtcs int
read the dcs from the modutil package.
Oh, that's right, sorry about that one. :o
Right, read the docs for modules.conf, under SYNTAX, in the "[add] options [-k] module [MODULE_SPECIFIC_OPTIONS]" section. The option names are NVreg_EnableVia4x and such.
Awesome. Thanks guys. I'll check that out later tonight. I do have all the development tools and "stuff" installed, made sure not to forget that one this time. I ran into some real problems trying to compile drivers for my Kyro when I had it. I had failed to install and development tools and that was hosed really quickly.
