Suse 9.0 eth0 hang
I was getting some pretty bad sound problems using the soundstorm on abit nf7-s ver 1.1 under suse 9.0 pro, so I downloaded the nforce drivers that had sound, network and chipset drivers. The install went fine with no errors but now the system hangs on boot wiith setting up nework interfaces:
I did a grep on nvnet which showed unresolved symbols.
without being able to get pasted the boot up I've tried booting as:
single linux, allows me into the system but can not make any changes, etiher the files are read only or it can not excute a sh file (as in sh ./nvidia_nforce)
init 3 does not get past the boot screen
booting from cd allows me to do a restore but shows all files to be fine.
What I need is command line option on boot that will allow me access as root to uninstall the drivers for nforce/ nvnet and hopefully reinstall the drivers right this time.
ps HELP me please.
Single user mode should mount all of your filesystems R/W - are you passing the "single" keyword on the kernel command-line to signal the initscripts to switch to init 1?
As for the problems with nvnet, have you tried forcedeth?
all files are read only even though I have to login as root.
Single linux is used on command line at boot selection with the options of failsafe, linux and windows(very old and not even useable but has some files that I use for games).
Can I use the forcedeth at the boot command line?
ps I use grub.
Since you're using grub, all you have to do when the system boots is to press the 'e' key when you highlight the kernel entry, highlight the entry with the path to the kernel on it, press 'e' again, add the keyword 'single' and hit Enter. Then press the 'b' key.
Well I've been working all night (job) so when I get home i'll give it a go, and thanks for being there.
Well I tryed, did not work. It may have been a problem with the usb keyboard but its worked anyother time i've tryed so everything seemed against me. What I did do was waste the 40gb drive that had old windows that i've used in the past for some files for games and music, and put suse on its drive then set it up to the point that I had a working nvidia drivers for games then copyed the /data1/usr/local/games/ to new installed suse, installation of all games except for ut2003 worked, ( nwn plus HoU and SoU over5Gb) Next week I plan to delete 80Gb drive and reinstall again then copy the data back as 80Gb w/8megs cash vs 40Gb 2megs cash, I get more performace and space out of the 80 then 40.
sorry long post, kinda bites I could'nt get the system to boot.
