can't modprobe nvidia [Resolved] but now i've a blank screen on startx
Kernel 2.6 (gentoo)
1.0.5336 nvidia drivers
when i modprobe nvidia, i've got this error :
FATAL: Error inserting nvidia (/lib/modules/2.6.1-gentoo/video/nvidia.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
here my dmesg contents :
nvidia: no version magic, tainting kernel.
nvidia: module license 'NVIDIA' taints kernel.
nvidia: Unknown symbol class_simple_device_add
nvidia: Unknown symbol class_simple_destroy
nvidia: Unknown symbol class_simple_device_remove
nvidia: Unknown symbol class_simple_create
any ideas ?
PS : i'd looked on the forum, but can't find a solution to my problem.
maybe this thread has an answer for ya ;)
I also think with gentoo you can get the nvidia drivers from there emerge system. Something like emerge nvidia
I am not sure as I do not use gentoo but I have played with it a while back.
This looks like an emerge, the stock NVIDIA driver does not reference any of these symbols (Gentoo recently added the class_simple code for udev support).
Ok thanks i've Solved the problem by upgrading to 2.6.2 kernel
But I still have problems :
I've got a blank screen when startx.
in XFree86.0.log I've :
(WW) LoadModule: given non-canonical module name "nvidia.o"
(EE) no devices detected no screen found.
no ideas ?
