can't modprobe nvidia [Resolved] but now i've a blank screen on startx
Kernel 2.6 (gentoo)
1.0.5336 nvidia drivers when i modprobe nvidia, i've got this error : FATAL: Error inserting nvidia (/lib/modules/2.6.1-gentoo/video/nvidia.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg) here my dmesg contents : nvidia: no version magic, tainting kernel. nvidia: module license 'NVIDIA' taints kernel. nvidia: Unknown symbol class_simple_device_add nvidia: Unknown symbol class_simple_destroy nvidia: Unknown symbol class_simple_device_remove nvidia: Unknown symbol class_simple_create any ideas ? PS : i'd looked on the forum, but can't find a solution to my problem. |

http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/show...threadid=24145 I also think with gentoo you can get the nvidia drivers from there emerge system. Something like emerge nvidia I am not sure as I do not use gentoo but I have played with it a while back. |
This looks like an emerge, the stock NVIDIA driver does not reference any of these symbols (Gentoo recently added the class_simple code for udev support).

Ok thanks i've Solved the problem by upgrading to 2.6.2 kernel
But I still have problems : I've got a blank screen when startx. in XFree86.0.log I've : (WW) LoadModule: given non-canonical module name "nvidia.o" ... (EE) no devices detected no screen found. |
