Very new to Linux

I have had Linux installed for about a week now, and I am trying to get the NVidia drivers installed. I have the Geforce4 Ti 4800 SE model, and through Windows, I can get my resolution up to 1280x1024 with the moniter I have.

When I start Red Hat 9, though, I get the NVidia splash screen before the login screen comes up, but for some odd reason, RedHat won't let me exceed 800x600 (which I find extremely annoying and cramped)

Can someone help? Keep in mind I am very new to Linux.

The X configuration file is /etc/X11/XF86Config, so modify it with a text editor keeping within its format.

But how would I modify it?

All I saw was changing "nv" to "nvidia" somewhere. I did that and I still can't get any favorable results.

you want to look for a section looking like this:

Quote:

Subsection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1600x1200" "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
ViewPort 0 0
EndSubsection
add the resolutions you require into this section for your default colour depth

to change resolutions use "xrandr"
