As per your request, UT2003 Demo:
I ignore the benchmark.exe utility because it doesn't hold detail settings constant. The utility varies it per your system. FWIW I lost 13 FPS in flyby but gained 3 FPS in botmatch to 57 in opengl over 40.71 dets. D3D performance was static.
Using STAT FPS in Deathmatch (where performance matters,) I was riding about 4-6 FPS above my averages with 40.71 dets in OpenGL. Once again, minimal increase with D3D. All detail settings were maxed out in Preferences, 1024X768 32BPP, no AA, no anisotropy.
Q3 and UT: Once again, I noticed a real performance boost in OpenGL over 40.71, about 4-6 FPS in both games. D3D performance increase was negligible.
3DMark2001SE. I went from 11,600 to 11,700 in D3D. Minimal increase.
Conclusion. These drivers improve OpenGL performance but D3D remains unchanged.
Other musings and ramblings.
This is the FIRST detonator set I've used that retained my Digital Vibrance settings upon reboot without disabling Nvidia Driver Helper Service. Visual quality still remains a tad dark but overall the images remain sharp and crisp. The AGP settings dialouge (as per the coolbits tweak) still have no effect. Perhaps that is for the NV28-NV30 chipsets.
I simply installed the drivers over top of 40.71. I was surprised I saw no decrease as the 40 series had always degraded my system performance when installing over a previous Detonator. No crashes, no lockups.
Conclusion: These are the best 40 series detonators yet. The only problem I've encountered is 3D applications are still a bit dark compared to the 29 and 30 series.

UNLESS a user has changed those settings. Results are very comparable on every run you use benchmark.exe at the same resolution as others.
Yes UT2003 is faster
The drivers are faster in Direct 3D in UT2002 Retail Version!
In Phobos2, when you look down to the action i have a minum Frame Rate of 16 FPS and now its on 21 FPS (1024x768x32Bit)!
I have all Settings to the Max, including Lightning and Dynamic Lights on.
Intel Pentium 4, 1800 Mhz (non oc - works at 2.400!)
GeForce 3TI 200 (non oc - works at 220/500)
ASUS P4B Mainboard (Intel 845)
60 GB 7200 Seagate Barracuda IV HD
Sound Onboard (Realtek - Software 3D Sound in UT 2003)
There is ALSO a mindetail.ini These files set the upper and lower limits of detail it would seem.
I've heard it from several people and it would seem to explain why I supposedly lost FPS when I upgraded my processor and graphics card from a GF3 ti500 and AMDXP 1600+ running benchmark.exe when stat fps in games showed quite an increase.
The official word is the retail version is faster than the demo.
However, were your detail settings exactly as they were in the demo?
There are other detail settings available via the console by typing preferences.
Never mind me though, I'm just a skeptical ol' pirate.
One more question though it's off topic: Is there still a very noticable drop in performance when Hardware Sound + EAX is selected in the retail version?

And the last, I haven't tested the performance between eax+3dhardware vs software audio.
You have to keep in mind that the textures in the full game are on average two times higher (resolution wise) than they are in the Demo, so I wouldn't be suprised if the demo yelled better results...
Getting back to the original post, thanks mongoose for the excellent write up. Can't wait to try them.

Question Anyone know how to apply the anistropy booster with these? It doesnt seem to like the .dll for some reason.
