error installing drivers
after i compile a new kernel and install the driver it says:

ERROR: Unable to determine the NVIDIA kernel module filename.

You probably don't have your kernel's source installed. The nvidia installer needs to gleam info from it to build drivers.

i do have the source installed it ins /usr/src/ and linked to /usr/src/linux any other suggertions....

Did you compile your kernel by yourself? is it a 2.6?

If yes and if you compiled your kernel using kpkg --append-to-version=-X

Go to /lib/modules/2.6.1-X/build, edit Makefile and add -X to EXTRAVERSION =

example if your kernel is a 2.6.2-f, go to /lib/modules/2.6.1-f/build, edit Makefile and change EXTRAVERSION= to EXTRAVERSION=-f

Hope it helped.

i used make bZimage to compile my kernel... how else am i suppose to compile it its ver 2.6.3 btw please help me out.... im running slackware btw

all you gotta do is: compile youre kernel and install it, afterwards boot into your new compiled kernel. then simply run the nvidia-installer and it will do the rest for you... it should choose to use /lib/modules/`uname -r`/build as the include-dir for kernel-headers which is fine, if you are running the kernel, for which you want to build the driver for...

i compiled my kernel and installed it, then i booted with the newly compiled kernel and run the installer yet it gives me this error how am i exactly suppose to compile my kernel? using what commands in what order?

coroner 02-21-04 12:44 PM

did you install the modules too? make modules && make modules_install?
if not do so... otherwise the nvidia-installer could not find the build-directory of the kernel.
another thing you might want to try is to tell the nvidia-installer the path to your kernel-include files which is /usr/src/linux-2.6.3/include
