Stuck at 1024 x 768

I have a GeForce 4 with 64 MB of ram and I've installed the latest drivers (version 1.0-5336) and for some reason X windows won't load at 1280 x 1024 and just loads at 1024 x 768. I searched the net and my monitor is capable of running at 1280 x 1024. Plus I've got it to run at 1280 x 1024 if I change the driver to "nv" instead of "nvidia". I'm using Red Hat 7.3 at the moment (long story) but I had the same problem on Redhat 9.

Also, for some strange reason the wallpaper is messed up underneath the icons on the desktop.

Adding Option "IgnoreEDID" "true" to the Monitor section fixed the problem with the icons as well as the resolution. Thunderbird on #nvnews on irc.freenode.net helped me fix it.
