installing driver for Mandrake 10.0 Comunity
Heya,
I'm trying to install the latest nvidia-driver on Mandrake community 10.0. It has kernel 2.6.3. I have the source of the kernel. I choose to compile or whatever the interface, but everytime it says "can't determine NVIDIA kernel module name". This check happens after determining where the kernel source is and some check with "CC=cc", but I have no idea what it means. Here is the log: nvidia-installer log file '/var/log/nvidia-installer.log' creation time: Tue Mar 30 18:30:24 2004 option status: license pre-accepted : false update : false force update : false expert : false uninstall : false driver info : false no precompiled interface: false no ncurses color : false query latest driver ver : false OpenGL header files : true no questions : false silent : false XFree86 install prefix : /usr/X11R6 OpenGL install prefix : /usr Installer install prefix: /usr kernel source path : (not specified) kernel install path : (not specified) proc mount point : /proc ui : (not specified) tmpdir : /root/tmp ftp site : ftp://download.nvidia.com Using: nvidia-installer ncurses user interface -> License accepted. -> No precompiled kernel interface was found to match your kernel; would you li ke the installer to attempt to download a kernel interface for your kernel f rom the NVIDIA ftp site (ftp://download.nvidia.com)? (Answer: No) -> No precompiled kernel interface was found to match your kernel; this means that the installer will need to compile a new kernel interface. -> Kernel source path: '/usr/src/linux' -> Performing cc_version_check with CC="cc". ERROR: Unable to determine the NVIDIA kernel module filename. ERROR: Installation has failed. Please see the file '/var/log/nvidia-installer.log' for details. You may find suggestions on fixing installation problems in the README available on the Linux driver download page at www.nvidia.com. Does anyone know how to get get past this error? Tx |

Re: installing driver for Mandrake 10.0 Comunity
There is a problem with the latest driver and mdk 2.6 kernel. It was discussed in this thread with a solution:
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=34772 Also, don't forget the kernel source prep you need to do before you even try to run the pkg installer. There is a faq all about this here: http://www.speculation.org/garrick/faqs.html Good luck |
Re: installing driver for Mandrake 10.0 Comunity
install kernel source
use you in yast & get latest updates in terminal , su, password, cd to /usr/src/linux ln -s linux-(whatever your kernel source is)(creates symbolic link) make cloneconfig make prepare-all (only for kernel source >= 2.6.5-7.75) cd to folder with nforce driver run nforcexxxxxxxxxxxxxx.run --kernel-source-path=(path to kernel source) This is what worked for me.
