Re: nvidia riva tnt2 model 64 HELP with NEW game!!
I bet I know what the problem is - the game probably uses T&L or something and her TNT isn't cutting it. I believe people who bought BF1942 had the same issue and had to upgrade to run the game. So really, just go out and buy a new card. Oh and wow 128 MB memory! You should look into getting at least 512 MB.

Re: nvidia riva tnt2 model 64 HELP with NEW game!!
Welcome to the forum. I hope that we (aside from GamingLord, don't let him give you an opinion of a majority of nV News members) can offer you the help you need. Looking at the game you mentioned, you'd be well off getting either a used Geforce 3 or Geforce 4 ti (not a Geforce 4 MX) on eBay. If online auctions aren't your thing, you can try and find a Geforce FX 5700 or perhaps an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro. Aside from that I have a few questions.
1. Is this a name brand PC? By that I mean Dell, Compaq, HP, etc. 2. If the first question is a yes, what's the model number? (I ask because it's possible this is a PCI video card) 3. What types of games do you normally play? With answers to those questions we can really give you more help. Also I'd recommend investing in more memory. At least I'd get another 128MB stick of PC2100 DDR memory. That can be had for < $40 at most retailers. EDIT: Looking at your DXDiag results, this is a PCI video card. If that's the case it's doubtful you have an AGP slot which is required for a card worth buying these days. The best you can do is go for a Geforce FX 5200 PCI card. |
Re: nvidia riva tnt2 model 64 HELP with NEW game!!
One thing to ALWAYS remember... look at the sytem requirements on the package, wether it be a game or regular program. If your system doesn't even come remotely close, don't even consider buying it because you can't return it after its been opened. Those TnT2 Riva 64 cards were good in its day, the best you can get away with is playing the old DOS based games... Doom, DukeNukem, Quake, Hexen, Heretic, etc. and possibly a few SWF games on the net.

Re: nvidia riva tnt2 model 64 HELP with NEW game!!
You'll probably be able to get $15-20 for the TNT, and you could get a GF3 (from me, even!! I have a GF3 I'd be willing to part with for $35!)...
Yes, you'd have to physically pull teh old one out and put the new one in... Here's what a gfx card looks like, just in case you haven't really seen one before... http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/atta...achmentid=2317 Your system is dang near adequate for semi-serious gaming... If it were to have at least a GF3/Radeon8500 class card... I must recommend that you do however purchase AT LEAST 256mb of memory for that system... Windows XP is very memory hungry, and seems to get more so with every service pack ;)... A 256mb chip could be had for around $35-40... But with 512mb of RAM, and maybe a GF4 ti4200 (a step up from a GF3... remember, never ever buy anything "MX"), you would be perfectly balancing out your PC... Your rig's specs are pretty powerful still... don't let anyone tell you otherwise... (I said "pretty powerful", folks... I know there's some CPU dependant games out there that may not like a 1.33, but theres enough GPU dependant games out right now that still can deal with a cpu of that speed PROVIDED IT IS EFFICIENT ENOUGH... :p /me pokes a stick @ a P4 1.3 :p Hope this helps a little. Welcome to nvnews! :) |
Re: nvidia riva tnt2 model 64 HELP with NEW game!!
Rage, I don't think a GF3 or 8500 (AGP anyway) would work, considering this.
Quote:
If it turns out that she does have AGP available then I'm all for your recommendations. She's running Windows ME by the way, but more memory would still be worth it. |
