acceleration only as root?
Hi,
Have been upgrading to kernel 2.6.5 on debian (unstable), have installed drivers version 5336 and now only get 3d acceleration as root when running glxgear, tuxracer etc. Card is a geforce 2mx, 32MB ram, computer a athlon 1800 running on an ECS k7s5a motherboard w/ 512MB DDR ram. Have checked the permissions on /dev/nvidia*, all set to 666, and have checked permissions on the libGL* in /usr/lib/tls, again all 777, so am totally confused as to what is wrong. ldd /usr/X11R6/bin/glxgears under both root and user gives libGL.so.1 => /usr/lib/tls/libGL.so.1 (0x4002c000) libXext.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libXext.so.6 (0x40089000) libX11.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libX11.so.6 (0x40098000) libpthread.so.0 => /lib/tls/libpthread.so.0 (0x4015f000) libm.so.6 => /lib/tls/libm.so.6 (0x4016e000) libc.so.6 => /lib/tls/libc.so.6 (0x40191000) libGLcore.so.1 => /usr/lib/tls/libGLcore.so.1 (0x402cc000) libdl.so.2 => /lib/tls/libdl.so.2 (0x40781000) /lib/ld-linux.so.2 => /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x40000000) So I should be using the right libraries. Any ideas? Mark |
Re: acceleration only as root?
The nvidia opengl drivers need access to /dev/nvidia*. Likely non-root users don't have enough permissions to access them. I advise you to for example make a group nvidia and add users who need 3d acceleration to it.
