Mandrake 10.0/AMD 64/Nvidia drivers fail on kernel compile
Ok, just a quick rundown of the situation.
I just built my girlfriend an AMD Athlon 64 (3400) system and I installed the 32-bit Mandrake 10.0 Official so she could try out Linux and see what she thought. So everything went smoothly until the Nvidia driver install.
I did all the necessary steps (install kernel source, root, init 3, sh NVIDIA.....yadda yadda yadda) and when it got to the kernel compile it would go to 100% and hang. It did this several times so I went to try and remedy the situation.
Updated kernel, updated bios, reinstall mandrake with a new set of ISOs and CDs and still the same exact problem. 100% "done" and it hangs.
We just ordered the 64-bit Mandrake for her and are waiting on it to arrive, but until then, she'd really love to have openGL support.
I am not at her house with her PC, or I would attach the logs...but the nvidia installer just says kernel compile "done" and that's the last line.
Her specs are as follows for any further help...
AMD Athlon 64 3400
Inno3D Geforce 5200 64 Mb RAM (AGP--bios does not have an AGP setting change)
WD Sata HD (non-raid array)
Re: Mandrake 10.0/AMD 64/Nvidia drivers fail on kernel compile
I'm afraid it's a bug with the NVidia drivers and AMD64 or the K8V. I have the exact same problem with slackware and read from other K8V users with it :(
Just in case, my computer specifications are:
ASUS K8V SE Deluxe
GeForce 4 Ti 4200
edit: ok, looks like it's a common problem already discussed here:
Well, I hope NVidia does something about it soon ;)
