Computer hangs when switching video modes
 
Hello,
my computer completely hangs, when I switch video modes, i.e.

- it hangs when running X and hitting Ctrl-Alt-F1 to go to a text console
I can do nothing afterwards. The screen is black. I found nothing realy good in the logfiles.

- it hangs when I want to shut down the computer, since it then wants to go to text mode.
so I have to enter "halt" in an xterm

- It hangs, when it is booting (sometimes)
It only starts, when it did a filesystem check (in text mode).
When it start properly with the graphical boot screen, it will hang, when starting X!

Thanks in advance for any hint!

I'm not sure you should have this bit...

Load "fbdevhw"

in your XF86Config. Another concern is your old kernel. I was sometimes getting crashes on X logout, but this hasn't happened since 2.4.23. Use the latest one, 2.4.26.

Hi,

I already uncommented the Load "fbdevhw".
I also tried the Option NvAGP 0...

No really good result.
I installed/compiled the driver anew. It looks a bit better now, but it seems to get worse with the time... ???

I think I really should upgrade the kernel. But that is really strange :(
