am i gettin ripped off?

hey -
i ordered an A350 Ultra (Leadtek's 5900 Ultra) for $319 and they sent me the non-ultra version.. :lame:
so - i'm not sure what to do.. both cards perform about the same on todays software.. they are also about as valuable i guess, considering that the non-ultra A350 is also a sought after card that is pretty hard to find.. plus this one is right here already and to get the ultra i'll bet they would make me pay the shipping and wait for days and days..
i can't seem to find many reviews where they compare the 5900 to the Ultra.. does someone here know if the Ultra is really a great amount superior to a non? i figure the 256 megs might become more valuable as software complexity progresses and i like to keep my vid cards as long as possible.. :ORDER:
so anyway - they may not even have the ultra card at all - there is no mension of more than one kind of A350 on their site..
so - i guess - don't buy from this place - especially their A350 Ultra.. -

If you ordered an Ultra, paid for it and they sent you a non-ultra then definatley send it back and demand that they sent you the right product you paid for. Not only did you pay for 256mb of RAM and get only 128mb, but you also bought superior performance through the higher clocks (which should allow for even more overclocking) and were swiftley ripped-off when they sent you that inferior card....

As its their fault they sent you the wrong item, not yours, they shouldnt charge you any P&P and if they wont collect it (some places send out a collection paid for by them) then they should compensate you for the postal charges for you to send it back to them.

Id email them/be on the phone to them and complain a little - maybe they will knock you something off a 5950 Ultra or something for the hassle :) worth a try.

On another note....
Incidentally, why did you buy the 5900 at this time in the year when all these new cards are coming out? The 6800nu is going to be less than $300! and the Radeon X800 Pro is about $299 isnt it (sorry dont live in the US so i cant comment on the prices over there exactley)?

At the risk of sounding even more biased than people already think i am why not just snag a 9800pro for about $150-£200? Same performance and a better investment due to its better PS/VS performance (well its better all round actually, but still).

However if there is another reason you went for a 5900 then just ignore me... :)

heh..
i like nvdia over ATI for some reason.. so i plan on stickin with them..
i am a little too impatient to wait for the 6800 non-ultra because my vid card is giving me stability problems.. - plus i had no idea that they would be under $300 when i ordered this so you know..
lol.. i am kind of bored and thinking that having this card now is worth all the money... see - what i have now is a GF 2 ti - old eh? so i wont really distinguish between a 5900 or an ultra..

Re: am i gettin ripped off?

Far as the card itself goes, you definitely should contact the reseller immediately. Based on the product description and picture, you definitely should have received a 5900U. It also should be noted on your receipt/invoice that the Ultra is indeed what you ordered.

That said, the points Rob brought out for the X800 Pro ($399, by the way) and 6800 should be taken into consideration. The X800 Pro can be had now, and the 6800 should be shipping within the next couple weeks (if reports are to be believed). If those cards are out of your price range, consider the 9800 Pro as those can be had for about $200 and they offer superior performance to even the 5900 Ultra.

If you want a good interim card, consider picking up a 5900XT. That should last you until the 6800GT/Ultra cards start dropping in price.

Considering that you can get a 9800 Pro or a 5900XT for only $200, I think you should at least contact them and try and get the 5900U you ordered.

Hey saturnotaku you agreed with me... :D lol

Anyway, be quick with that 5900XT purchase.
I heard, on the inquirer i belive, that NVIDIA were canning them. Yeah it was the inquirer, read about it here.

Quote:

INDUSTRY SOURCES tell us that the Geforce FX 5900XT won't last much longer. Even there is huge demand for these extremely good cards, Nvidia feels the product's popularity is affecting its FX5700 sales badly.
So it looks like the 5700 Ultra will come back with avengence. Shame. I assume NVIDIA do have a product based off the NV40 though to replace the 5700?

Re: am i gettin ripped off?

A story from the Inq I might actually believe at first read. Makes sense - the 5900XT and 5700 Ultra are the same price. The former has a 256-bit memory interface, the latter 128-bit. Which do you think most people are gonna go with? Things that make you go hmmmm.... :retard:

Re: am i gettin ripped off?

@saturnotaku

Yeah, well the reason NVIDIA did it certainly made sense and actually worked. Who would buy a 9600XT over a 5900XT? Apart from only the most DIEHARD ATI fan on the tightest of budgets... :)

That said i was noticing a gap appearing on some sites, the 5900XT selling for about £150 and the 5700 Ultra selling for £105... if the 5700 Ultra made it down to £80-£90 then it might actually look good, but that would then make the 5600 and 5200 look even worse lol. It looks like NVIDIA have too many product lines and they are over-laping each other and making some of them obselete.

btw i approve of the avatar there hehe, DOA girls eh ;)

Re: am i gettin ripped off?

For $319 dollars man i would return it, Save up the extra $80 for a x800pro or 6800gt

Or for $300 get the 6800nu which will still be plenty faster than the 5900ultra you want :bash:

Re: am i gettin ripped off?

Yes, you got ripped off.

A 5900 NU is about $120 less. I'd call up the Retailler and either get it swapped for the right card, or get your money back / return the card... and do what Headbust said... pay an extra $80 for a X800 Pro or 6800 GT.
