hi:

i've the soft i said in title.

i would like to install nvidia driver from installer, so i'm looking for help about doing in this way :), because i remember in my last installation i could do it.

nvidia-installer.log gives me the following.

thank in advance

nvidia-installer log file '/var/log/nvidia-installer.log'

Using: nvidia-installer ncurses user interface
-> License accepted by command line option.
-> No precompiled kernel interface was found to match your kernel; would you li
ke the installer to attempt to download a kernel interface for your kernel f
rom the NVIDIA ftp site (ftp://download.nvidia.com)? (Answer: No)
-> No precompiled kernel interface was found to match your kernel; this means
that the installer will need to compile a new kernel interface.
-> Using the kernel source path '/usr/src/kernel-headers-2.4.26-1-686' as
specified by the '--kernel-source-path' commandline option.
-> Kernel source path: '/usr/src/kernel-headers-2.4.26-1-686'
-> Performing cc_version_check with CC="cc".
-> gcc-version-check failed:

If you know what you are doing and want to ignore the gcc version check, sel
ect "No" to continue installation. Otherwise, select "Yes" to abort install
ation, set the CC environment variable to the name of the compiler used to c
ompile your kernel, and restart installation. Abort now? (Answer: No)

Which version of gcc are you running? Check:

Code:

gcc --version

One more check, I should have suggested this:

Code:

cc --version
See if you can compile simple programs... they could be more verbose about any errors.

Are you running a testing or unstable version of Debian? If so give Debian woody a try.

SH******T!!! i was wrong about my debian version. i use debian unstable, a fresh install , installed 2 or 3 days ago, through internet (so, i have installed only the packages necessaries for what i want). this version should work because i installed it months ago in another installation of debian unstable also.

thank you very much for your interest, whig.

regards

You could compile just about any program. A small console one would be easier to do.

I can't think of many reasons why nVidia drivers won't compile in sid. Depending on the above you could consider a bug report.

hi:

i've downladed the xterm tarball. i decompress it and tried to compile, when it gave me this error:

$: ~/xterm-190$ ./configure
creating cache ./config.cache
checking host system type... i686-pc-linux-gnulibc1
Configuring for linux-gnulibc1
checking for gcc... gcc
checking whether the C compiler (gcc ) works... no
configure: error: installation or configuration problem: C compiler cannot create executables.
$:~/xterm-190$

that C compiler cannot create executables? do you know how can i resolve this? do you think could be this the problem with nvidia driver?

thank you.

regards

i searched through inet, and i found i needed libc6 and libc6-dev packages.

i just had libc6, but not libc6-dev and its dependencies. i installed it, and NVIDIA compiled without ANY problem :) :clap: :clap: :clap:
