Which nVidia card for SuSE 9.1 on AMD64

Hello list,

I just joined this forum --- it seems full of very knowledgeable people.

My question is: I am trying to build a dual AMD Opteron workstation, running SuSE 9.1 (AMD 64). I need to select a graphics card for the workstation, and still haven't decided between a 5950 Ultra or the new 6800. I know for sure SuSE supports the 5950 on AMD 64. But what about the 6800?

All advice is more than welcome; I need to make a decision very soon.

Regards,

Ricardo Palma

Nobodys tried a 6800 in Linux yet but I would assume the next driver will have support.

I would i like to be able to tell you not to buy an nVidia card knowing the pain you are going to have with binary only drivers (expect at least 3/4 crashes per day), but afaik those are the only cards with some (quite old) support for amd64 (and this is the sad reason i bought my FX5600). When i will find a decent 3d card with decent opensource drivers i will immediatly trash my nvidia card :kill:

The uptake of 64bit it slow anyway and you will not find a 3d card with OpenSource drives equiavent to nvidia. 64bit drivers are slow coming out in all cases not just nvidia.
