can't play fullscreen games

I'm using 1.0-6106 drivers with a GeForce Ti 4200, games run well (quake2, armagetron...) but only in window mode, when i switch to fullscreen my screen goes black and i have to restart x.

Re: can't play fullscreen games

The extmod module is required to go full screen IIRC. Add it to your X config like the other modules are loaded, and view your X log to be sure it is loaded.

Re: can't play fullscreen games

it seems to be loaded:

(II) LoadModule: "extmod"
(II) Loading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libextmod.a
(II) Module extmod: vendor="The XFree86 Project"
compiled for 4.3.0.1, module version = 1.0.0
Module class: XFree86 Server Extension
ABI class: XFree86 Server Extension, version 0.2

Re: can't play fullscreen games

I am having *exactly* the same problem. Same identical card as well.
It started with the last couple of drivers.
It doesn't happen for instance with SuSE 9.1, but it does with Debian Sarge (latest driver) and SuSE 9.2.
I have also checked that I have the extmod module.
Help please. I don't use Windows and I want to play my fav games with the latest distros.
I know I could "downgrade" the drivers, but both Debian and SuSE use unusual metods to install the drivers.

Re: can't play fullscreen games

Anybody? Any idea? Old drivers always supported the GeForce4 Ti 4200.
Having a good card and not being able to play most games is *extremely* annoying.
I had been happy with Nvidia support for linux so far and I had always recommended everybody to avoid the competition like the plague.
But until this issue is solved I am not going to do that any longer.
Neither it seems me fair that I should replace a good card because of a driver issue.

I've had a strange problem with doom3 fullscreen.
Solved using "useEDIDsomethingIdon'tremembernow" in xorg.conf

check it out

Not a very clear message but thanks anyway. Better than being ignored.

Problem eventually solved by the latest driver (tested under Mandrake 10.2 RC2)

Better late than never :D
