vVidia GeForce 4 on Linux Mandrake 9.2 Inspirion 8500 offers only low resolution

Dear all,

I have an Inspirion 8500 from Dell with Mandrake 9.2.

I installed the nVidia driver NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-6106-pkg1.run

The screen of the computer i wider than most laptops. It is a 16/9 format.

The display is okay, but a bit fuzzy. That is because I use the resolution 1024*768.

And the display is a bit distorted, maing things appear wider than they are.

I can also choose between these resolutions:

1152*864
800*600
640*480

But I haven't the one I need, namely the 1200*800

I suppose the problem lies in my X Config file.

What should I have to be able to use the resolution 1200*800?

Kind Regards
Stephane

edit this part of your XF86Config:

Quote:

Subsection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1600x1200" "1024x768"
ViewPort 0 0
EndSubsection
as you can see, mine allows for 1600x1200 and 1024x768, the first in the list is the default.

Edit: I am not sure if 1200x800 is a standard resolution or not, maybe try 1280x960.
