you shouldnt base your purchase on one game =) Get whichever card u feel will play what you own and plan to buy. The Ultra and xt pe are both really solid-personally I lean toward the ultra a bit more for sm3.0, and ultra shadow ll technology, but the pe has some nice features as well sm2.0b and 3dc....u cant lose with either one....this isnt like last generation where there was a definitive winner.

Yeah, basing your purchase off of 1 game is kinda silly, unless there's a REALLY big performance difference and you're going to spend a LOT of time playing the game. I doubt there will be a big performance difference, but there should be a decent number of benchmarks that show up when it's officially released, so you shouldn't have any problem seeing how each card performs. I'm wondering what kind of framerates we'll actually get out of this game. I'm not sure whether to expect 30 FPS or 100 FPS on high end hardware. But the game sure does look more CPU limited than GPU, all those units... :drooling:

Personally, I'd say get the 6800GT as it seems to offer the best bang for your buck, but no matter what you choose I don't think you'll have to suffer through low framerates for a very long time ;)

I'd call the 5900's the winner from last gen. :D

Ahh, can't edit. Of course, I use Linux primarily :)

Personally I started buying nVidias because GeForce was a cool name and I like the company logo. I never stopped doing so since, but I've never been dissappointed with the cards.

This game is going to be outstanding. You'd probably have to wait for some official benchmarks since no one here (or at least very few) has access to both cards.

Total War looks like is has such basic graphics that would run on anything from a Ti4200 to a 6800GT max detail. Either one would most likely run the game at max settings, as others say dont let this game be your deciding factor.
