CS: Source runs really well
 
CS: Source runs, on 16AF, 6xAA, 1600x1200 - typically in the 70s and sometimes well over 100 frames per second on my stock 6800 GT. The Half-Life hardware test thingy runs between high 40s and well over 100 on the same settings.
This is compared to an average of 50 (30-70) in Doom 3 with half the AF and 2qXAA, and 30-60 with 2AA and 8xAF in Far Cry.
The effects I've seen aren't as 'fancy' as Doom 3, but considering Far Cry's only real claim is fancy water effects I'd say the graphics are second only to D3 in any game I've played.

Far Cry had more than fancy water effects. Effect use of bump mapping (though not as much as DOOM III) and PS light shading techniques.

I don't have CS: Source yet as I want it on DVD rather than downlaoding it etc and I hence I cannot directly compare CS and Far Cry or Doom III but, you are not giving Far Cry the credit it deserves.

Well I have Far Cry and the graphics are adequate, but the trees still look really damn fake and the models aren't anything super impressive. I wasn't very impressed with the bump mapping, but I never really noticed bump mapping until Doom 3. The 1.3 patch for FC looked pretty neat, but they are apparently taking forever to release it.

If you have Far Cry, yo seriously need to take a closer look as it's much more than what you have said. Sure the trees aren't Speed tree like but they are better than what's in games before far Cry. All rendered tree in the next few years will fake because the technology is just not there to make them look "realistic". It would require a huge amount of processing power to do that something u may appreicate is not available yet.

As for bump mapping, you should look at the metal floors, you can see rivets etc which all bump mapper. The oil drums, at the center have bump mapped protutions (sics) tyres grooves alsoa re bump mapped. The rusty pipes etc also have on themm bump mapped effects to give them a textured look. or them pipes without rust. Do not be so closed minded about Far Cry. I mean really have a look

Finally after all the pics someone manages to tell us how it plays. Lets hope HL2 doesnt have any "bugs" that will take 2 patches to fix while those on ATI hardware see no problems. But of course this wont happen.' :angel2:

Did you apply the 6xAA in-game? if so, then ur not running AA at all my friend....

Yes, although I put it up to 8s on the driver console thing and it works fine either way.

Its just a facelift on a old and popular game, and at that, its great..
I really love it, the addition of the physics breathes some life into the enviroments and alot of the small details added really ups the imersion..

Still the same game tho, CS never was about the graphics..
But it looks good atm.

The game dosenīt run smooth w/ a 6800 Ultra 65.73, Athlon 2400+ @ 2250 and 1024 MB Corsair. Set all to high and 4xAA/16xAF/Vsync enabled and get ingame 70% >> 30-60 fps and the rest 60-90 fps. In VST i get 82.09 fps !! If i run the game on lowest settings ... it changed nothing, still slowdowns. Other games run very well .. think the game got many problems !?!?

What resolution are you playing at? I have noticed a few drops into the upper 30's @ 1600x1200 w/4xAA and 16xAF and high quality set it the CP. If I set it at quality vs high quality then it never drops below 50fps :drooling:

At 1600x1200 cs:s is prettier than far cry. The water effect is arguably more convincing, but what makes the difference is the texture resolution, cs:s is a lot sharper at higher resolutions. Far cry has good textures but i think it's due to the difference in the map sizes of the games that cs:s can fit in fewer but higher resolution textures.

You get the biggest drops at long view distances - the extra processing power being put into the AF. That's also one of the biggest performance hits with far cry.
