nvnet and NF7-s2g
Hi,
Here's my hardware NF7-S2G motherboard Athlon XP 2700 2x512 kingston ram 2x3Com Corporation|3c905B 100BaseTX My problem is that when I try to insmod nvnet the Mandrake 9.2 gives following error: Using /lib/modules/2.4.22-10mdk/kernel/drivers/net/nvnet.o Warning: loading /lib/modules/2.4.22-10mdk/kernel/drivers/net/nvnet.o will taint the kernel: non-GPL license - NVIDIA See http://www.tux.org/lkml/#export-tainted for information about tainted modules /lib/modules/2.4.22-10mdk/kernel/drivers/net/nvnet.o: init_module: No such device Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters. You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg. I have tried the following things. First I checked that the internal lan is swithed on from the BIOS. second I tried to run NFORCE-Linux-x86-1.0-0292-pkg1.run installer with the pre made package and the compiling version, but it gives the following error: ERROR: Unable to load the kernel module 'nvnet.o'. This is most likely because the kernel module was built using the wrong kernel source files. Please make sure you have installed the kernel source files for your kernel; on Red Hat Linux systems, for example, be sure you have the 'kernel-source' rpm installed. If you know the correct kernel source files are installed, you may specify the kernel source path with the '--kernel-source-path' commandline option. I have the kernel source installed following outputs from the commands uname -r 2.4.22-10mdk rpm -qa |grep -i kernel kernel-source-2.4.22-10mdk kernel-2.4.22.10mdk-1-1mdk The Ethernet card shows up at the lspcidrake as unknown ethernet lspcidrake unknown : Nvidia Corporation|nForce2 AGP Controller [BRIDGE_HOST] unknown : Nvidia Corporation|nForce2 Memory Controller [MEMORY_RAM] unknown : Nvidia Corporation|nForce2 Memory Controller [MEMORY_RAM] unknown : Nvidia Corporation|nForce2 Memory Controller [MEMORY_RAM] unknown : Nvidia Corporation|nForce2 Memory Controller [MEMORY_RAM] unknown : Nvidia Corporation|nForce2 Memory Controller [MEMORY_RAM] unknown : unknown (10de/0080/147b/1c08) [BRIDGE_ISA] unknown : unknown (10de/0084/147b/1c08) [SERIAL_SMBUS] usb-ohci : unknown (10de/0087/147b/1c08) [SERIAL_USB] usb-ohci : unknown (10de/0087/147b/1c08) [SERIAL_USB] ehci-hcd : unknown (10de/0088/147b/1c08) [SERIAL_USB] unknown : unknown (10de/008a/147b/1c08) [MULTIMEDIA_AUDIO] unknown : unknown (10de/008b/ffff/ffff) [BRIDGE_PCI] unknown : unknown (10de/0085/147b/1c08) [STORAGE_IDE] unknown : unknown (10de/008e/147b/1c08) [STORAGE_IDE] unknown : Nvidia Corporation|nForce2 AGP Host to PCI Bridge [BRIDGE_PCI] 3c59x : 3Com Corporation|3c905B 100BaseTX [Cyclone] [NETWORK_ETHERNET] 3c59x : 3Com Corporation|3c905B 100BaseTX [Cyclone] [NETWORK_ETHERNET] unknown : unknown (1106/3119/147b/1c08) [NETWORK_ETHERNET] unknown : Linux 2.4.22-10mdk ehci_hcd|PCI device 10de:0088 (nVidia Corporation) [Hub|Root Hub] unknown : Unknown|USB OHCI Root Hub [Hub|Root Hub] unknown : Unknown|USB OHCI Root Hub [Hub|Root Hub] So I did the following I used the nvidia installion program to install the nvaudio driver and extracted the installation package. I did make clean make make install then I edited /etc/modules.conf to add alias eth2 nvnet and typed insmod nvnet Thats when it all went SOUTH. Can somebody help me please? Re: nvnet and NF7-s2g
Grand, the NF7-S2G doesnot have a nvidia ethernet card it has a via one. So installed via drivers and all was well.
