MSI GeForceFX 5900XT to 5900?

Anyone here know of a successful flash of an MSI GeForceFX 5900XT to a regular 5900? Or just any 5900XT in general? While surfing for advice about this, I've heard of some guys flash their 5900XT to a 5900. I've also heard that 5900XT's cannot be flashed to 5950's due to some memory issues. I'm pretty interested in flashing my card, but I don't wanna do damage to it either. I'm just trying to do some research on this before something bad happens. Thanks in advance.

Andy,

I just blew up my MSI FX5700 because I tried to re-flash the bios, then over-clock the card. I am now RMA'ing the card for repairs and I had to buy a replacement card for over $200. Unless you know what you are doing, if it is working fine, then leave it alone. But if you are insistant and know what you are doing you can find a few awesome MSI card bios flasher and card re-configurere here ---> http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=896 Let me know if this is what you are looking for.

I tweaked my MSI FX 5900XT to 5950U speed with the default bios. If you want, i still have the bioses. Mail me to get the bioses.

IT REALLY DEPENDS ON THE RATED SPEEDS OF YOUR MEM!

I have the same card as you but my mem is rated for 715MHz, no more. With the slackest (5950) latencies it did go up to 830, but MSI puts no cooling on the memory chips. With default 5900 timings, it never got above 800, with default 5900xt timings it never got above 740MHz.

Read this thread: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/show...0&page=1&pp=15 before doing something stupid.
BTW, voltages on 5950 and 5900-5900XT are not the same! You will not achieve the same core clocks.

You should edit your bios with simple overclocks on core and memory, the 5900XT has far superior latencies than any other 59XX. There is no real-life gain to slacking latencies (xcept maybe 07 00 0F 40), you would do better to tighten latencies even more as shown in the above thread.

If all you want is higher clocks and more 3dmarks, fine, but I preferred game benches. And Jimmor got the thruth about 59XX.

Also, the 5900xt is not memory bound, it is core bound. You'll achieve impressive results by overclocking the core and tightening memory latencies. The bandwidth of a 5900xt is in excess of 20GB /s. It's the four pipes that f* its performance. That's why an overclock on the core is what's needed.

Again, the Guide to Modding 59XX bios is a complete thread where ALL IMAGINABLE info is and has been verified and confirmed.

By loosing the memory latency, you'll get a chance to overclock a little more. The overclocked frequency is enough to overcome tight memory latency + some more performance. Although Daneel is right, memory is not the bottleneck of FX 59xx Series. My MSI GeForce FX 5900XT (390,700) is almost as fast as my ABIT FX 5900 (400,850). You can only need to do volt mod and throttling.

I have tried them all ,my (BFG 5900XT) has been flashed
almost 50x ,As far as I am concerned A 5900 (what you are calling it)
Is a 5900NU ,and they have a better ram than an xt .
My best flashes with lower temps, and higher clocks ! has been modded
(under clocked 5950U ) bios with way loser timings (MSI or BFG)

http://home.arcor.de/redinferno/5900...u/595u4575.zip

What it does for the 5900XT is give you that lower operating
temp.and sets the bar lower as a starting point to go from there.

I run my card for every day at Core=490 & Memory=890.
but i get the lower temps ,because of the 5950U bio.

Don't the 5950U's also unlock the 1.5V setting the 5900XT so desperately needs?

Here's a thread with a plethora of bioses to play with: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread....threadid=85394

Oh, and in respect to jimmor's 59xx mods, NiBiTor allows you to make all of the modifications in an easy to use GUI: http://www.mvktech.net/index.php?opt...&filecatid=741

nibitor cannot handle mem latencies, and GFFX5900xt cannot have 1.5v.

period.

Re: MSI GeForceFX 5900XT to 5900?

I second Daneel Olivaw's comments,

NibiTor has limitations with setting memory Timings and Latencies. And only 5900nu, 5900u and 5950u cards can have Core volts of 1.5 set by bios changes !

Whether Core volts can be set to 1.5 is actually a card thing and nothing to do with the bios. A fact which is explained in my 59xx bios modding guide !

Man I had fun with that guide. I spend hours on those latencies, bought an nv silencer, etc. Good times. More recently I did a PAT mod to my mobo, man I had fun with that. This week I switched to Linux, man I had fun with that.
...I like making up problems for me to solve.

59xx bios guide, good times. Thanks again Jim.

On that subject Jimmor, what 'does' Nibitor do with 59xx timings? I never quite figured out those A B C D E letters and how they related to X-Bios editor Hex view..

And I'd never taken the time to look at your 3dmark03 score    What's your overclock on that P4?

You obviously aren't getting your fair share of "real life" problems if you have the time and need to keep making up your own new headaches to resolve :)

The main thing to understand about NiBiTor timings, is that they are all Decimal representations of the hex values which are actually used in a bios.

And NiBiTors first problem is that it won't allow changing Latency value "A" (to best of 64 (or 40Hex)) unless all eight latency strings have same values. Where for example it will error with "timing is not unified" and refuse to let you make a change.

Also the timings "B to F" represent only the middle five values of the 28 bit timing string identified in my guide. Which means that NiBiTor currently does not allow for best performance changes to all timing values in the string !

My current CPU is a 3.2GHz P4 at 3.92Ghz, with mobo bus at 245MHz.

real life? Whats that?

:p
To give you an idea, I was all excited when I found 3 viruses a few nights ago... nails to hammer in. If I didn't have 3 university courses, a job and a girlfriend, I'd compile me a Gentoo! I might install Gentoo anyways... :) I think I posted 20+ posts today...
Life's good right now, it never lasts though... longest overall good run lasted 3 months... getting mighty close to that now :scared I'm sure something's about to happen :looksaround

....

AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH-snip

j/k

And thanks, for that explanation on Nibitor.
