resolution problems
 
hey guys, i'm not sure if this is the right place for this question but i'm not sure where the problem lies exatcly (opengl, nvidia, X).

i installed the linux opengl drivers for my g3 from nvidia as it says on thier page. Then i used the quake3 demo to test...and it works well except that with anything 2d(the intro and the menu) is displayed in a quater of the screen with garbage in the rest of it. And in the acutal game the resolution is at 1600x1200 but part of it displays off the screen. i can't see the top, or the right side.

its 2 problems that seem to be about changing resolutions.

any help guys?

p.s. the NVdriver doesnt auto-load on boot up. whats up with that?

oh and i'm using RedHat 7.3 with the 2.4.18-5 kernel

I'm having the same problem except I'm running kernel 2.4.18-10

This sounds like you only have one mode defined in your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 files; it's probably 1280x1024. In your "Screen" section, Modes subsection, make sure that you have all the resolutions you want to play at listed. Generally, a line of

Modes "1600x1200" "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640480"

will work fine. Please remember that the first listed mode will be the default desktop size, so if 1600x1200 is too big, just remove it from the list.

fat bastid: Make sure the line 'alias char-major-195 NVdriver' appears in /etc/modules.conf.
