how do you remove a Geforce 3 Ti200's fan?

It's been doing fine on a backup comp for years, but it's starting to make noise so I got a Vantec to stick on until it croaks. I popped off the plugs holding it on, but that did nothing. The fan seems firmly stuck to the heat sink, which is in turn stuck to the card. I'm afraid of applying a lot of leverage. Optimally I'd get the heat sink off, since the Vantec will fit very poorly. Is it stuck on with paste, or did they use epoxy?

Thanks for your help.

Some video cards had their HSF glued to the GPU...I don't recall exactly about the Ti4200 but you could put it in an antistatic bag and then in the freezer for a while. That might make it easier to remove with little force.

You can find some more info here:

Thanks, Clay. I may just unplug the fan when it gets too rowdy. The card's not under a lot of stress any more, and from that thread and others it's likely the heat sink will be enough.

I would agree, if you're not overclocking and you have adequate airflow in your case then you should be fine. :)
