Hegemonia

Simply the best graphics of any space-based game ever. Anyone else played it yet?

Nope but those screenies on their website look absolutely spoogeworthy.

I played the previous version of this Pax imperia 2 to death. And I loved it I hope this one is just as good :).

Hegemonia does have some amazing graphics and the music is some of the best I've ever heard in any game. As far as the having the best graphics of any space sim I don't know. Have you played the Imperium Galactica 3 demo? Now that game has some sweet graphics. The ship models are definitely better than Hegemonia, plus I like the overall art direction a little better as well.

Have played the IG3 demo too.. it crashes on my PC though, probably due to it not being an official demo. The official demo was due to be released a few weeks after the Matrox version was leaked. That was months ago.

If the IG3 demo is crashing immediately then the problem is due to your refresh rate being set above 60hz. At first I couldn't get the demo to work at all and it would crash immediately because I was using RivaTuner to fix the refresh rate problem with WindowsXP. Setting it back to 60hz fixed it though. I'm sure this will be fixed for IG3's final release so we don't have to play at a nasty refresh rate.

BTW, the demo I played was the Matrox one, a new demo is said to be out sometime in december and will feature a new user interface among other things.

It loads the menu ok. It crashes when you start the game. It zooms in through the galaxy but just before it zooms close enough for your ships to be visible it blue screens. So it runs for maybe 1 second before crashing.

It ran fine on my GF2 in Win Me though :)

It looks pretty sweet in-game, too. I've only played the demo, but I'd imagine that the full version is even more polished. I found the gameplay in the demo to be a bit cryptic. It would have been nice to have a tutorial system set up (kind of like Homeworld). Or maybe I just missed it. Anyway, looks to be a decent game!

Cheers,

I bought the game last friday, and took it back to Game on Tuesday! The best thing about this game is the graphics, it is very pretty. Trouble is the overall colouring is brown and varying shades thereof. The gameplay is very suspect and the events that happen ingame do not seem to follow a set path. Sometimes if you do what is reqd of you it will not allow you do the next bit ie: the option to carry pout the reqd task is "greyed out". If you do manage to carry it out you can't guarantee that the next bit will be available to do. The big prob here is that there is nothing ingame to tell you WHY you cant do this next bit, and you're left floundering around replaying levels again to try and find out why, then that level changes slightly and it back to square one again. Also it appears there is no save game available in SP, Skirmish is confusing to set up, multiplayer crashes (it did on mine anyway) when trying to start, the voice acting is very cheesy to say the least.
If ne1 wants to buy this game then I would suggest checking out the "haegemonia" website forums and see what peeps are saying about the game. I treally wanted to like this game, but in the end gave up and exchanged it for "age of mythology".
IMO Homeworld is still the game beat and no-one has done that yet.

Its made by the same people who made Imperium Galatica 2. IG2 had many bugs too. The majority were fixed but support of the game was all but abandoned after a few months to start this one. IG2 still has a few bugs and many game play inbalances. To be honest, Digital Reality are jerks for not supporting their games. IG2 could have been a very good game.

Anyway, I just said Hegamonia has good graphics, and it does. The game play is ok, certainly more fun than O.R.B. despite the dependence on scripted events (IG1 and IG2 were the same). I would like to see Homeworld 2 use the Hegamonia engine. It would look awesome.
