1.0-6633 ? & Problem Quadro FX 540 PCIe / x86_64

Hi,

Firstly I was wondering what the 6633 version of the nvidia driver improved ?
Indeed the new HP Workstation are delivered with a 1.0-6633 (???) version.
here comes the documentation :
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/su.../c00063015.pdf

Is it a developer driver ? An hp patched version ? I didn't do any diff yet.
The driver is available with the resource cd of this hp workstation, I don't have the exact link here.

I'm interested in this driver because it seems to explicitly support Quadro FX 540 PCIe (PNY in my case).

Anyway, My problem is the following when I load the driver :
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[root@pc1 nv]# insmod nvidia.o
Warning: loading nvidia.o will taint the kernel: non-GPL license - NVIDIA
See http://www.tux.org/lkml/#export-tainted for information about tainted modules
PCI: Setting latency timer of device 03:00.0 to 64
NVRM: The IO regions for your NVIDIA card are invalid.
NVRM: Your system BIOS may have misconfigured your graphics card.
NVRM: bar1 (framebuffer) appears to be wrong: 0x0 0x1
NVRM: the NVIDIA probe routine was not called for 1 device(s)!!
NVRM: no devices probed, aborting!
NVRM: this often occurs when rivafb is loaded and claims the device's resources.NVRM: try removing the rivafb module (or reconfiguring your kernel to remove
NVRM: rivafb support) and then try loading the NVIDIA kernel module again.
nvidia.o: init_module: No such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg

[root@pc1 nv]# lspci -v

It seems that the resource is not initiliased correctly.

the bar1 seems to be wrong.

My questions :
Does anyone had a successful installation with this card on any x86_64 architecture ?
Is these errors known ? any workaround ?

My hardware :
My motherboard is an Intel SE7535GP2 (PCIe x16) with 2 Nocona processor and 4GB of memory.
I'm running Entreprise Server 3 x86_64 Update 4 (kernel 2.4.21-27).

thanks.
Thomas

The error condition suggests that the SBIOS didn't configure BAR1 correctly. Please check for an updated SBIOS and/or contact HP about this problem.

Hmm, found on hp's ftp, but for only x86_64...

Well it's not an HP PC,
I did built a similar configuration.
We had feedback from Intel and it's common PCI problem with SE7525GP2.
If any fix found I'll post again, it may help.

thanks anyway.

PS : btw, zander what are the improvement on 6633 ?

Code:

2005-01-26

* Added a workaround for an X server bug with PCI-E GeForce 6800
and GeForce 6600; a fix has been provided to XFree86 and XOrg.

    * Fixed stability problems on x86_64 PCI-E systems.

    * Documented change_page_attr problems with x86_64 2.6 kernels;
please see the known issue "The X86-64 platform (AMD64/EM64T)
and 2.6 kernels" in the text README here:

        /usr/share/doc/NVIDIA_GLX-1.0/README

    * Fixed 2D rendering corruption on certain older GPUs.

    * Improved compatibility with Linux 2.6 kernels.

    * Fixed compatibility problems with some SWIOTLB em64t systems.

    * Fixed a bug that triggered error messages of the form:

        "ioctl32(doom.x86:6747): Unknown cmd fd(16) cmd(c0384642){00}
            arg(ffffc75c) on /dev/nvidiactl"

    * Fixed NvAGP incompatibility with recent Linux 2.6 kernels.

    * Improved interaction with the udev filesystem.

    * Improved performance of PCI cards on Linux 2.6 systems.

Tried 1.0-6634 from HP's ftp today (6800U PCIe):

- "Unknown cmd fd(24) cmd(c0384642){00} arg(55ad5a6c) on /dev/nvidiactl" is now gone
- 5-10s black screen when starting WC3 is now gone
- 1024x786 is stable now
- 1280x1024 still causes my PC to lock up when launching SPECviewperf or other 3D Apps

I'm seeing the same error with a GeForce 6600, in a PCI-Express x16 slot on an Intel 7525X4 MB (Dual Xeon); kernel 2.6.10, with both the 6629 and 7167 drivers. Rivafb is compiled as a module and not loaded.

Anyone have any ideas?

I gave up and ordered a Supermicro X6DAi-G. It works fine...

Hopefully Intel fixes there firmware so I can use the two SE7525GP2s now sitting in the cabinet.
