2.6.12-rc2 , new nVIDIA Framebuffer option

I've noticed there is a new option in the graphics part for framebuffer drivers, nVIDIA Framebuffer but it doesn't work(blankscreen). Seems a bit pointless if it dont work as it would get around the rivafb issue with the nvidia driver.

Anyone know the situation on this?

Works here but corrupts console when switching from X to VT-{1-6}

The old and new framebuffer driver are based on the xfree86 nv driver. In the past the nv driver was one piece of code that supported all cards. As newer geforcefx/geforce6 models started to work differently the code was split into a TNT and a Geforce part. For the same reason the updated driver is split into a rivafb and a nvidiafb part. (it also makes porting easier) While it is a newer driver it still has the same problems as the old and internally it isn't that much different.

Right, so it looks like we will be staying with the VESA framebuffer for sometime yet then.
