The good old days.

How many people remember the early days of online gaming?

You know, Quakeworld Team Fortress/MegaTF on an early Pentium with a 28.8k connection...

Before all those lamers started playing games...

I wish online gaming could return to its former state. Before the CS explosion. Before w4nks started cheating AND whining. Back when an online community was small but tight, when everyone knew everyone.

A close thing would be Tribes/Tribes2. I guess because of the difficulty involved in playing those games, there are many more GOOD players and much less lamers.

Ah man, I feel old.

Ded anyone here play qw/qwtf?

If so, what was your online name?

Post your opinions!

I used to play a ton of Quakeworld death match and Team Fortress. Original quake 1 TF is still the best team game there is! I went through many names in those days, Disco Stu, Deadpool, and many more and finally settled on Starscream. I also got a clan going with several of my friends, the ASS clan. It stood for All Star Squadron. heh.

hehehe

I was known as Gunman and later Corpodal Dan.

I went through a few clans.

mainly EWM (Evil Widow Makers) and AK47

I agree that it is the best team game ever made. Forget TFC or FS (FagStrike)...

qwtf is where it's at.

the first time I played Quake with any seriousness was when I wanted to try Painkeep, and man. Deathmatch with style. I loved it.

DaveW 07-28-02 08:52 PM

I didn't play Quake online but played a lot of LAN deathmatchs, we all played it in Dos in 320x240 using a borrowed set of Netware IPX drivers and 10-Base-2 ethernet cable :)

hahaha

now THAT'S OLDsk00l!

haha

320x200 dos

yea i remember that.

Looked better than HL at that resolution.

Quake1 had decent software mode.

yup sometimes i miss those days, playing quake and doom. Ppl back there where real pro's and not a bunch of n00bs who try arguing with the hostages in cs etc.

my name while i was playing those games was dexta

nowadays mainly while playing cs it is . or de><ta or 4(urH8

awwww, I still reminise about the good ole' days of paratrooper and Commander Keen 1-5, now thats good stuff... I always loved how much faster games ran in dos compared to windows.

win9x was complete crap, and as it stands now the more complex things are the more can go wrong (though win9x>win2k and up was DEFINITELY a step up)
I seriously hope the general environment gets a rework

Mmmmm, there's nothing like playing a good frag match of the original DOOM on the 100mbit network at our school. Heh, that's what us techs did last year when work got slow, it was quite fun.

I remember the day that the first QUAKE test was released and we could play a FPS online on the internet with my 28.8k and Pentium 100....OMG the lag but I was so amazed at how immersive quake was. I played after that A LOT of QUAKE CTF from THREEWAVE, that was the best FPS online gaming ever for me. Oh my the fun I've had with the GRAPPLING HOOK!!
