VIA Custom DOOM 3 Benchmarking Multiplayer Map

Edit: You need the map also. I forgot to list that link. The map is 5 meg. The demo is 41 meg.

Quote:

As the name of this map suggests, its primary purpose is to serve as a high end performance system benchmark application using the DOOM 3 engine. Supplied with the zip file is a default demo that can be used to perform a benchmark test. Instructions to run the timedemo test are shown below and are also available in the read me file included in the zip file.

The aim of this map was to make todayís gaming systems break a sweat, though I have used vis portals wherever possible to help eliminate overdraw and optimize rendering speeds as much as possible and these made a huge difference, effectively allowing for more detail and lighting. Despite cramming so much in there, however, Iím pretty impressed with how well a top of the line system can run it. To me that says a lot about just how smooth DOOM 3 rendering engine really is. Our initial tests have shown a remarkable difference in performance between systems equipped with a 256 MB video card as opposed to a 128 MB video card. Itís all relative though, which is how it should be. Based upon our initial findings, if your system can push out over 30 FPS using the viavga_d3_bench demo (at the time of release), then youíre doing very well. The graph below demonstrates how our test systems faired, including comparisons to performance in the default single player demo.

Thanks, OWA! I'll snag it later. How do you like it? Is it a decent multiplayer map? More importantly, can a single 6800Ultra cut it? It looks pretty cool.

Actually, I forgot to test it. I got caught up playing around with BF2 and the 77.30 drivers. I guess I'll try it out now.

The map is really nice. It looks great but it just kills my system. I got 22.4 fps running at 1280x1024 2xAA/8xAF. The guy that designed it said it should give you a taste of what to expect from games like Quake Wars, etc. If that is true, I'm in trouble and definitely won't be able to run them at high settings.

Edit: Had tertsi's mod enabled (specular part).

here's what i scored on the via demo with all settings on max. i also was running with ultra extreme quality mod ON and i had image_lodbias -8.

1280x1024 4xaa/8xaf = 29.3

i scored 50.4 on demo1 with the same settings.

Re: VIA Custom DOOM 3 Benchmarking Multiplayer Map

Hmm, I wonder why you're scoring higher than I am. Our systems are similar and I score about 57xx on 3DM05 compared to your 51xx. Actually, I see my problem now. I still had tertsi's mod installed and I didn't have the optimizations part of it enabled.

Edit: Okay, I got 30.4 fps after removing tertsi's mod.

This is a pretty cool map. Now I just need to build my new dual core Athlon/SLi machine so it'll run well with more than two players ;)

Re: VIA Custom DOOM 3 Benchmarking Multiplayer Map

Since I'm swithing to a 6800 I've decided to do a few benchmaks for personal comparison. This VIA timedemo is a killer. My current X800XT got 33.2fps @ 1600x1200. It gets really choppy at times. I should try and bench Battlefield 2. Load up a bot match and walk in a similar path with Fraps running.

Re: VIA Custom DOOM 3 Benchmarking Multiplayer Map

As long as you are above 30fps then you are doing good according to the guy made the benchie.

Re: VIA Custom DOOM 3 Benchmarking Multiplayer Map

At 1600x1200, 2xAA/8xAF, I get 29.4 fps.

Edit: At 1600x1200 4xAA/8xAF, I get 24.3 fps.
