RH8.0 Does not like Nvidia kernel drivers =(

Iīm sooo tired at not getting anything to work strait away in Linux. But I have struggled on untill now because now I canīt get the Nvidia drivers to work with my Geforce 3 TI200 in RH8.0.

I have followed the guide on this forum and the guide on Nvidias homepage but there seems to be something wrong as I canīt get X to start after I have completed all the steps. It says it canīload the Nvidia kernel =/

I use the Source RPM and when I do the "make" it says it is not known if it will work with GCC 3 because GCC 2 should be used.

I use the GLX tar and it seems to be alright.

What shall I do?
I think I have to reinstall RH8.0 AGAIN (fifht time today).

Oho one more thing. Does anyone here knows when the RPMs for RH8.0 will be release because I %&#@$ need them =)

You might try to download the tarball with the kernel driver and untar it. Then, login as root on a text console, stop the X server with "/etc/init.d/gdm stop" for gnome or "/etc/init.d/kdm stop" for KDE, "/etc/init.d/xdm stop" for xdm, ....

Build and install the kernel module by making the extracted NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-4191 directory the current directory and "make install".

Load the module with "insmod nvidia" (you might also need to "insmod agpgart" before the nvidia module), If it works then restart the X11 display manager, i.e. "/etc/init.d/.... start".

RedHat 8.0 RPMs are available from http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?IO=li...ia32_1.0-4191. Download and run NVchooser.sh to determine which files are appropriate for your system.

The gcc3 vs. gcc2 issue was resolved with 1.0-3123, and you shouldn't be running into it.

Thanxs guys. I got it working.

I must have found some old drivers on NVidias page and used them when it didnīt work because when I used the drivers you guys said I should use, it worked.
