6800GT Dead?
Well I made a post a few days ago about how my card was hitting temps of like 95 degree's playing a simple game like World of Warcraft and asked for quick opinions on 2 coolers im thinking of getting, but it may be too late :(

So I tried to put more AS5 on the chip, and surprisingly it lowered my temps on WoW from 95 down to 70, and from 69 idle to 52 idle... and worked for a day, but I left my computer on like it says to do with the AS5 for a few days...

But now when I try to play WoW or anything that uses graphics, my whole computer locks up and I get a bluescreen saying that my nv4_disp something failed or something giving me some big error and saying that it may be a problem with my hardware, or the driver itself, so I reinstalled the drivers trying a few different versions, and still get the problem.

I dont know what it could be... if some AS5 got onto the card itself would it wreck it? anything else that could cause this to be happening?

Need some advice, and this time please dont ignore it like my other thread :(

Re: 6800GT Dead?
You have to be carefull with AS5 since it is conductive, don't overdo it. If you are comfortable with opening your card again (note that this certanly voids your warranty, but you already know that I presume), take out all AS5 you have put there, wipe it all clean carefully (with some dry cloth and alcohol) and make a small film (just to cover chip, you can use razor blade to disperse it), take care not to smudge PCB or corners of the chip with it. If your cooler is cooling your memory chips also, you can put AS5 on them also. When you are done, make sure card firmly sits in the slot, and that cooler is actually spinning (also don't forget the 12V power cord).

Good luck.

Re: 6800GT Dead?
put that card in a different system. Sometimes when there's a problem with the driver there's a problem with the whole system. My dad's system would lock up all the time like you say, but in windows. He got the blue screen, and nv_disp failure also, and when I formatted it for him, the problem went away. He was using a tnt2, but that's proof that it may not be the card, but windows itself.

again, just put it in your friend's system or something and see if it'l tick.

EDDIT: like you, we tried a ton of drivers before we formatted, and had no success. after the format, the problem went away.

Re: 6800GT Dead?
It was on a fresh install.

I used DriverCleaner and cleaned out all the Nvidia drivers, but then started getting some "IRQL Not less or equal" blue screen, and disabled a ton of onboard stuff and it seems to be gone for now, I guess I have to just play more games and see if it happens.

I am fairly sure that it is not your videocard that's the problem here.
