Pop-ups

I have noticed over the past couple of days that there are a few pop-ups persistently appearing, even though I have my pop-up blocker on.

Not sure if anyone else is getting ad-related pop-ups randomly appearing.

Is there anything that can be done about that on the server side?

Re: Pop-ups

sounds like you have spyware problems....

Re: Pop-ups

I would consider that to be a possible option if the pop-ups were occuring on other sites.

They ONLY come out when I have been here the last few days, especially today. Therefore no, I do not have spyware problems. As is I have pretty clean system and make sure I keep it that way.

Sometimes an ad-server can cause pop-ups which is what I was asking about.

Re: Pop-ups

We don't use an ad server. What URL is the pop-up originating from?

Re: Pop-ups

I will try and capture it next time it pops up.

Has not come up since my last post in this thread but it seemed to be originating from one of the smaller ads at the top of the screen. Had a couple for regcleaner.

Re: Pop-ups

Keep me posted as I despise unwanted pop-ups!

BTW, do you use IE-SPYAD?

https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www...ce.htm#IESPYAD

Quote:

IE-SPYAD adds a long list of sites and domains associated with known advertisers, marketers, and crapware pushers to the Restricted sites zone of Internet Explorer. Once you merge this list of sites and domains into the Registry, the web sites for these companies will not be able to use cookies, ActiveX controls, Java applets, or scripting to compromise your privacy or your PC while you surf the Net. Nor will they be able to use your browser to push unwanted pop-ups, cookies, or auto-installing programs on your PC.

[conspiracy theory mode]

Sazar, do you visit Rage3d as well? Do you tend to go there first, then here, and then get the popups?

Re: Pop-ups

Nope, the only time I have ever had these pop-ups was with nvnews open.

I changed some settings around and now I don't get em so I don't worry about it.

I think we started our threads almost at the same time :D

And mike is excellent at following up so I am confident that if this WAS a prevalent issue, he would deal with it with the requisite dilligence :D

No problems here with IE 6.x or Firefox 1.0.7 (not even running adblock currently).
