1.0-8174 and v4l

1 Attachment(s)
Ooops, now I do have a problem with 1.0-8174_x86.
v4l and motv are grumbling about some XF86DGA. My USB Webcam (ov511) is not working now.

v4l-conf: using X11 display :0.0
dga: version 2.0
X Error of failed request: XF86DGANoDirectVideoMode
Major opcode of failed request: 137 (XFree86-DGA)
Minor opcode of failed request: 1 (XF86DGAGetVideoLL)
Serial number of failed request: 13
Current serial number in output stream: 13

This is motv-3.94, running on Linux/i686 (2.6.8-24.18-default)
X Error of failed request: XF86DGANoDirectVideoMode
Major opcode of failed request: 137 (XFree86-DGA)
Minor opcode of failed request: 1 (XF86DGAGetVideoLL)
Serial number of failed request: 210
Current serial number in output stream: 210

What can I do to resolve this problem?

Which nvidia driver version were you using when this last worked?

It worked from 1.0-6111 (the one I started with Nvidia products) to 1.0-7676 (the one I used before 1.0-8174).

DGA support was removed starting with the nvidia driver in 1.0-8174.

Ok, I see...
Btw, I got the webcam working forcing motv to not use the DGA extensions: motv -nodga -c /dev/video0

Thank you for your support.

Does the DGA mouse extensions still work?

Yes.

From what I understand the DGA mouse stuff is built into the DGA module. Perhaps they will seperate it and call it something else once they remove the DGA stuff from Xorg entirely.

Too bad for those of us still trying to use vmware4.5.2, which uses DGA for fullscreen mode. I installed 8174 on my laptop and desktop, then discovered vmware didn't work any more and reinstalled 7667. Guess this is why.

Use 5.5, it doesn't depend on DGA for fullscreen anymore.

DGA Support Removed :(

I just tripped over this change (removal of DGA suport). :(

I was able to get my VMWare working again by going back to the previous level. :)

Is there documentation somewhere that explains *why* this support was removed?

I am trying to use Xdtv and Zapping to watch tv with my Hauppauge WinTV PVR150MCE tv card using the ivtv driver. All of these programs complain about "XF86DGANoDirectVideoMode". I haven't found any switches to disable DGA.

Does this mean I have to use an older driver version to watch TV under Linux? Are there alternative programs I can try to watch TV? (I've tried MythTV, which does work but I've been having some issues getting the whole thing going and it segfaults in the program guide.)
