As was pointed out in another thread where you posted the same problem, you need to use the --x-module-path NVIDIA driver installation option to specify the path to your X server's modules.

I really doubt that Fedora Core 5 is placing its X modules in /usr/lib/lib/modules. Why do you think that --x-module-path=/usr/lib ?

I don't have a FC5 system at hand to provide you with the easy answer. The choice was pointing you in the right direction, or not saying anything.
