Asus A8N-VM (CSM) - new BIOS 0610 released, still no ACPI fix

Asus released 0610 BIOS for Asus A8N-VM (CSM) mainboards. The ACPI error is still not fixed so acpi patch is still needed to make it working.

It is good time to remind Asus that ACPI error is still not fixed and needs some cleanup work. :thumbdwn:

ACPI-0311: *** Error: ns_search_and_enter: Bad character in ACPI Name: 43025350

There is easier patch (for kernel's utmisc.c) which also fixes this. However I think asus _should_ fix buggy bios. The European asus support forwarded my bugreport to Taiwan, so a chance for fix appeared.

As soon as bios revision 0506 came out, I sent a bug report to ASUS concerning ACPI (even telling them what and where to fix !)...They replied the same: "Taiwan is working on it"...

I hope I was unlucky and that your request will be heard ;-) In meantime, ASUS will hear from me again (... just keep cool ....)

Let's wait for 07xx version in 2 months ! Grrrrrrr ! :thumbdwn:

I think they're doing bios updates every month. MSI is supposed to be releasing a final BIOS on Feb 1st so I think they'd be coordinating w/ nvidia as Asus should be doing...

If a lot of people will flood Asus with 'ACPI fix request' they will consider it as important and will fix. Otherwise some of us get "Taiwan is working on it" and nothing more will happen. The ACPI error is trivial to fix and "Taiwan is working on it :zzzz:" looks a little bit funny for me :D .

Yeah ! Let's flood !

"Morgoth is working on it" (TM) :D : I replied (again) to ASUS tech support this night.

Hope this will be useful...before we get asleep !

For those who want an ISO image to uprade the bios without floppy: I updated the one available here for version 0506.
The new one allows an upgrade in 0610 (command: afudos /i0610.rom as indicated in readme file with bios). Get it here

What is really annoying is that the ASUS board is a good one considering design, performances etc. I also tested a Gigabyte with GF6150: the ASUS seems better.
If ASUS could update its BIOS correctly, it would be perfect. All other problems (I don't have much) are related to drivers (alsa, forcedeth and nvidia graphics driver).

So, we can hope that all will be fixed someday.

don't thing ASUS cares,... had send them a support request, at the time , I could not even install suse,.... and they had for another board 5PD, an alsa zip file,... but not for this board,... they still have not put it up,....
the NIC still gets lost, on some reboots,... OC works definitly does not go above 240mhz, runs stable 220,... and on 510 they changed the menu,...
my next MB, will not be an asus....
--- anybody tried the foxconn ?

cheers, Robert Schultz

I posted my fixed DSDT for BIOS 0610 on the sourceforge site (http://acpi.sourceforge.net/dsdt/view.php?id=552). It's for 2 GB RAM, though, and I think a lot of people have 1 GB. Maybe I'll take out one of my RAM sticks and re-create it.

This DSDT finally allows my computer to turn the power off using the poweroff command. What a concept!
