NVIDIA GeForce 6800 driver feedback- Debian/Ubuntu

Hi,

Is anyone using geforce 6800 gnu/linux driver w/ 17" LCD display under Debian or Ubuntu? If so, have you had any display issues such as fuzziness?

Did you use built-in OS (debian/ubuntu) drivers for GeForce 6800 card or did you download nvidia 6800 driver off nvidia site? If so, can you point me to an URL for the correct nvidia linux driver?

I'm looking at using Alienware laptop (MJ-12_m5700i) w/ 17 WideXGA 1280x800 LCD display. Alienware doesn't offer any linux support. I was wondering if anyone has used alienware w/ linux and can offer any feedback?

thanks for your time!

Just curious, does 6600 & 6800 uses same driver?

Also, are you using 6600 GT w/ 17" LCD display?

You may want to pose the question in the nvidia linux forum.

just curious why?

I basically had to ditch IBM Z60m because of lousy ATI (Radeon x300) linux driver support.

overpriced to hell, most big companies do it, but alienware seems to be the worst.

True enough.

I've talked to a few people who have used alienware and are happy w/ the performance and support from a windoze standpoint. But unfortunately alienware doesn't offer linux support which is ok.

I wouldn't use Dell even if someone gave it to me for free :)

IBM - In a heart beat but lack of ATI linux driver support has made me unhappy.

HP - Same issue when it comes to ATI.

Next choice, Alienware, they should thank nvidia for that :)

I'm open suggestions.

Yes, I'm using the driver on a bunch of HP tablets and the driver distributed with Ubuntu works great, instructions are here:
http://ubuntuguide.org/#installnvidiadriver

I also use the driver on an old gateway laptop and I had to make some special configuration changes in order to get things to work, check the readme file if you're still having problems.
