GeForce 256 and fedora core 4
 

I tried to install newest NVIDIA drivers for linux in order to activate 3D features but the installer says that this GPU is no longer supported and refers to a 'special legacy NVIDIA GPU driver release'.:(

Anyone knows how to install 3D features for oldest NVIDIA cards (geForce 256) on newest linux distributions ?

You need to use the 1.0-7174 legacy driver.

I try to do it but it is not working.... :(

My card is a geForce 256 32 mb ram SubVendor:Guillemont. In Suse 9.3 works ok.But in Suse 10 dont work. See:SAX and Install-nvidia logs.
linux:~ # uname -r
2.6.13-15.7-default

linux:~ # rpm -q kernel-source
kernel-source-2.6.13-15.

I try too Driver 6629 but it dont compile in Suse 10 ( rivafb error ) SEE:instaler-nvidia.txt

sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-7174-pkg1.run -q
sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-6629-pkg1.run -q

Could anybody help me ???

If 1.0-7174 is failing, please post the installer log that captures its failure.

I'd also suggest applying these patches first:

See my sax and installer-nvidia-log. Are you sure than driver 7174 is for my card ??

According to your log, 1.0-7174 is installed. Why do you think that it is not?

well, the point is when i did SAX -m 0:nvidia it is not working... and the logo of NVIDIA dont see.
The problem is sax -m 0:nvidia i think than the driver is not correct.

I've successfully installed nvidia driver version "1.0-7174" but, when I launch 'startx' command, the screen turns blacks and nothing appears.... Then anyone had the same problem ? what can I do ?

Netllama Thanks a Lot! i have to do it and emailed to NVIDIA CORP.

I have installed nvidia driver Ver. "1.0-7174" ok.but when i run SAX2 -m 0:nvidia the screen turns blacks and crash of server.Similar problems Fab33.I guest than the problems is the kernel version.

Yes....

I solved the problem by disabling SELinux... when installing the driver... then

step 1 : 'setenforce 0'
step 2 : 'sh NVIDIAxxxx.sh'
step 3 : 'setenforce 1'

Now it works....
