Confusing RAID behavior

I have just set up 2 new 250Gb SATA HDDs on my Asrock Geforce6100/MCP410-based motherboard. My plan was to raid, and install windows, mandriva x86 and x86-64 and debian. Windows installed ok (after I dug out my CD coz the drivers given on the asrock website dont work with windows install), but then I realised linux was not going to be that easy.

Basicaly I now have Mandriva installed on an old 8Gb HDD, and I have run across some confusing behavior. Basicaly, I can only see my raid set from linux (using dmraid) if I *DISABLE* the raid setting in the BIOS. Also, if the BIOS is set to RAID, even IT doesnt know there are 2 SATA disks there (probably why devmapper cant see them), but windows works fine.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Try posting to the General Linux Forum, this one is devoted to graphics cards. Sorry I can't help otherwise.

Re: Confusing RAID behavior

You can't boot from striped raid (anything but raid-1) in linux. Also, it's suggested you use the built in soft-raid rather than bios raid when using linux. To make your root partition striped, you'll need a small /boot partition on a separate disk.
