Redhat 80 + 1.0.4191 = Horrible 2D performances
Here's my system:
CPU: Athlon XP 2000+
Mobo: Gigabyte 7VAXP
Chipset: VIA KT400 AGP x8
RAM: 512M DDR 333
GPU: NVidia GeForce 4 Ti 4400
OS: RedHat 8.0 + latest kernel
Driver: 1.0.4191 Linux IA32
X11: XFree86 4.2.0
X11 config: 1600x1200 @ 24 bits
My problem: everything seems to work
fine except for the fact that the 2D performance
is horrible: when I drag a shell window atop
other windows, the "damaged" window take
forever to re-paint.
However, if I launch a 3D app. (one that
actually creates an OpenGL rendering context),
the problem disappears for a while (i.e.
2D refresh behaves reasonably well).
Has anyone any idea what's going on ?
Am I the only one experiencing this ?
Could this be an AGP issue (I sometimes
see some messages about mtrr in my console
log, although it's kind of impossible to tell
which part of the system is whining about it:
kernel ?, X11 ? NVidia driver ?).
Any help GREATLY appreciated
General consensus is that it's a bug with the drivers. Revert back to the 3123 set and you should be good to go...
Geforce2 mx 400
I have horrible 3D performance. 2D is fine for me though. q2 1024 is like 27fps. something is weird is going on. I tried all other version of drivers.
