Disappearing Downloads

I have a FAT32 partition where I archive files for both Windows and Linux, which has worked fine in the past. But now, when I download a file from SuSe, using the download manager in my browser, the file vanishes from any file manager in either Windows or SuSe. Apparently, the file still exists, because I can still execute it from the download manager, but I often like to download a Windows file while booted into SuSe. I do have "show all hidden files" selected in the file manager, but that does not help. Any ideas of what is happening?

My guess is the download directory has been changed. I would go into the preferences and find the directory.

I am not sure if this could happen: the destination partition FAT is full, download manager first downloads the file to cache which isn't full, then it attempts to move it to the FAT partition, but it fails 'cause it is full, then the file may remain in cache. I would think you would get an error on this, but you never know.

Those would all be good guesses, but they do not apply here. The FAT is far from full, and I have checked the download directory before posting the OP.

The only thing I would do is use a search tool (find command or GUI util) to search for it, but I bet you are one step ahead of me on that one too. :) If the file is in cache, then it probably has a funky name anyway and this won't help. I would download a file, denote the size, and do a search for files with that size. The find command has a -size option that will do this.

After this, I am at a loss. Hope you find your answer. Please post when you do. I would really like to know that is happening.

Good luck

Yes, I have run a search of the drive that the archive is on, but I have not searched everywhere else. The only other place that it could be is in the SuSe partition, but the SuSe search tool is so slow that I haven't bothered.

I'm preparing to reformat all of my partitions, except the archive...if I can get up the gumption to install my new motherboard first, so I guess that this problem is academic, and hopefully the new installs will not have this problem.
