Apparently installation without a problem but X server doen't start
1 Attachment(s)

I am using Fedora Core 5, 64 bit.
I installed NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-1.0-8756-pkg2.run as follows:
logging in as su - in terminal.
Then init 3.
then as root: sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-1.0-8756-pkg2.run
Everything seems to go okay.

However when starting X server with startx I get the following error messages:
(EE) failed to load module "glx" (a required submodule could not be loaded, 0)
(EE) failed to load module "nvidia" (module does not exist,0)
(EE) no drivers available.

I have found drivers in /usr/X11R6/lib64/modules/drivers , the files: nvidia_drv.o and nvidia_drv.so

Perhaps these files must be in /usr/lib64/xorg/modules/drivers. I don't know. If so, what do I have to do?

In attachment the file /var/log/nvidia-installer.log

See http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/show...ed+load+module ... This helped me. I was missing development stuff.

For some reason, an earlier upgrade failed. I tried to fix it and made it worse (got your module errors) after I did an apt-get distupgrade.

Do you want to continue [Y/n]?

Then, I noticed stuff missing, so I reinstalled them. Then, I noticed missing Xorg development stuff missing (xorg-dev) which I think nvidia installer needed!

I hope this helps. :)

Re: Apparently installation without a problem but X server doen't start

the stuff that was missing with me was the package pkgconfig.

So in order to install the nvidia-installer on Fedora Core 64 bit,one has to read the message

"HOWTO: Installing the nvidia X driver in Fedora Core 5"

(which I did) but then one has to be sure that the packages

are installed . In my case pkgconfig was not installed. Perhaps this information can be written in the "HOWTO"- message mentioned above.

Thanks for the advice
Jan :)
