Can't get sound card to work on the A8N-VM CSM motherboard

I'm running CentOS 4.3 (kernel 2.6.9-34.ELsmp) 64 bit CPU. Looks like the default sound driver was snd_azx. The sound did work but was accompanied with an extremely high pitched tone. I downloaded and installed the latest version of the nForce driver (NFORCE-Linux-x86_64-1.0-0310-pkg1.run). It appears that the network driver nvnet works just fine, however, for the life of me, I can't get the sound card to work at all.

Here's what's in my /etc/modprobe.conf
#open source driver
#alias eth0 forcedeth

#nVidia driver
alias eth0 nvnet
alias forcedeth off

alias eth1 e1000
alias scsi_hostadapter sata_nv

#open source driver
#alias snd-card-0 snd-azx
#options snd-card-0 index=0

#nVidia driver
alias snd-card-0 nvsound
alias snd-azx off
---

Any ideas/suggestions?

Thanks.

Re: Can't get sound card to work on the A8N-VM CSM motherboard

I have that motherboard and I'm using alsa 1.0.10. This board uses the hda-intel driver. Try this in your modules.conf:
Code:

alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel position_fix=1
options snd cards_limit=1

I think the key to the high-pitched squealing is the position_fix=1.

Upgrading to the very latest alsa release fixes this problem.
