7950GX2 Linux support

Hello,

I am just ordering an Asus EN7950GX2 (dual GPU) card.
Unfortunately I cannot see this one in the list of supported GPUs.

Is it going to work now and if not then when?
Thanks.

It should work fine in 1.0-8762.

Thanks,

It's pretty much just 2 7900gtx's sli'd I thought, it'll probably show up as 2 devices.

That is correct, it will appear as two devices on the PCI bus.

Thanks,

And, what about having two 7950gx2 ?

I am considering building a Quad SLI system with two of these cards (for research purposes) but windows is not an option.

Thanks in advance

The next released driver will support quado-SLI.

Thanks,

Thank you very much for your answer. Any idea about when this release will be available ? (rough estimate)

There is no point in buying some hardware without being able to use it.

NVIDIA will never tell but they do seem to have a pattern. They release then about a month later they have an update(fixes bugs) then in another 4 months they release again(new features). The next version is the 9 series which comes out in late Aug/early Sept. I would personally wait till it comes out. Also alot of win users are complaining about issue w/ their mobo so be careful with that.

Re: 7950GX2 Linux support

Just for clarification:

If I run a single 7950 right now, then I can either use that for two displays, or I have to use SLI mode. The same SLI mode (application-wise) that you use with two normal cards, correct?

I am not familar with SLI's software-side. What does an application/game have to do to use a SLI'ed OpenGL backend?

Re: 7950GX2 Linux support

Yes, in 1.0-8762, you can just setup SLI for the 7950GX2, as you did for any other GPU SLI setup in the past. SLI is transparent to applications/games.

Thanks,
Lonni
