2 Attachment(s)
i've a Ubuntu Dapper, a Geforce4 440 MX and i try to install thge latest nvidia driver by .run file or by ubuntu packages, but i'm not successful in doing this.
Here is my xorg.conf
Code:

# nvidia-xconfig: X configuration file generated by nvidia-xconfig
# nvidia-xconfig:  version 1.0  (buildmeister@builder3)  Mon May 15 13:23:42 PDT 2006

# /etc/X11/xorg.conf (xorg X Window System server configuration file)
#
# This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
# values from the debconf database.
#
# Edit this file with caution, and see the /etc/X11/xorg.conf manual page.
# (Type "man /etc/X11/xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
#
# This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
# if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg
# package.
#
# If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
# again, run the following command:
#  sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

Re: impossible to install 8762 driver

Where it says:
Code:

Driver        "nv"
Change that to:
Code:

Driver        "nvidia"
Restart X

Re: impossible to install 8762 driver

sorry, but i express badly my situation...

Re: impossible to install 8762 driver

@pepz: please install the xserver-xorg-dev package, then reinstall the NVIDIA Linux graphics driver.

Re: impossible to install 8762 driver

Re: impossible to install 8762 driver

@pepz: if you had the package installed prior to installing the NVIDIA Linux graphics driver using then .run package, then no, you likely don't need to reinstall it. If that's the case, however, please change the X driver to nvidia, start X and generate an nvidia-bug-report.log file immediately afterwards, such that any relevant errors are captured. Please attach the log file to this thread.

Re: impossible to install 8762 driver

(EE) /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/nvidia_drv.so is an unrecognized module type
(II) UnloadModule: "nvidia"
(EE) Failed to load module "nvidia" (unknown module type, 6)
It appears that the X server rejects the NVIDIA X driver module; what is /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/nvidia_drv.so's md5sum?

Re: impossible to install 8762 driver

how can i control nvidia_drv.so md5sum?
thanks
bye

Re: impossible to install 8762 driver

Please run `md5sum /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/nvidia_drv.so`; the correct md5sums for 1.0-8762 are:
736a1897d3d40d745730621514563780 NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-8762-pkg0/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/nvidia_drv.so
d4a6dc58348249ff2d787f54ba94c843 NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-1.0-8762-pkg2/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/nvidia_drv.so

pepz 06-26-06 01:11 PM

Re: impossible to install 8762 driver

here you are
Code:

pepz@ubuntu:/etc/eciadsl$ md5sum /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/nvidia_drv.so
330c9fcebe3f724ddc694c834869c0be  /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/nvidia_drv.so

but in the last installation i've used the nvidia-glx package, not the .run package
thanks

Re: impossible to install 8762 driver

pepz,
Does this problem persist if you remove the 3rd party driver package, and install the official NVIDIA driver package?

Thanks,
Lonni
