X server crash on manipulation of certain strings
1 Attachment(s)
Maybe this has been posted before, but a string in the latest Ubuntu update descriptions was triggering a crash of the X server (see thread here).
It turns out that this problem was known earlier, and is reproduceable. See this bug in the Ubuntu bug database. I've reproduced this using the method described in that bug, which is: - Surf to http://www.floriansprogramme.de.vu/tmp/crashGTK01.txt - Copy & paste the text into gedit - Select the text up to and including the last line - Press backspace Sometimes this does not crash the server, but pressing control-Z after that usually does. I am attaching a nvidia-bug-report.log to this post, made after the crash by using the /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old file. Hopefully it is of some use. |

and double-clicking the post button posted my message twice... Why can't I delete messages?

Re: X server crash on manipulation of certain strings
I've reproduced this problem in Fedora Core 5 (it is not specific to Ubuntu), and opened bug 239065.

Re: X server crash on manipulation of certain strings
Where do I track this? I want to stay in touch.

Re: X server crash on manipulation of certain strings
You can track it here or by emailing linux-bugs@nvidia.com and requesting a status update.

Re: X server crash on manipulation of certain strings
So is anything being done about it?
|
Re: X server crash on manipulation of certain strings
Yes, it should be resolved in the next 1.0-9xxx series driver release.
Thanks, Lonni |
Re: X server crash on manipulation of certain strings
Hmm, you wrote 1.0-9xxx? So, to be 100% correct on this, it's not in the 8774 release?
