No headphone output on MCP51

Hi all,

I have an "nVidia Corporation MCP51 High Definition Audio" card which is detected by Ubuntu Dapper (using alsa 1.0.10-4ubuntu), but only plays audio by the internal speakers. When I connect the headphone output, it keeps playing the audio by the speakers and I get no sound in the headphones. In windows it works correctly.

I have also tried installing alsa-1.0.12 but the same problem remains :(

Any ideas??

Thanks!

I've opened an ALSA bug which is now being solved at:

Hi,

can you tell me which motherboard you are using. I have an Asus P1-AH1 barebone with an A8N8L motherboard which is also using this audio chipset. But I didn't suceeded to get it working with alsa. It seems that although the card is detected and classified as HDA NVidia, Realtek ALC861, the driver is still not working properly, e.g. when I open alsamixer, i do not have the possibility to modify master volume, pcm volume etc.

Can you tell me which alsa version and kernel version you are using? Perhaps also the settings in the modprobe.conf?

This would be a great help for me,

Thanks, Ingo

As posted in the ALSA bug report, I'm now using alsa 1.0.12 (+ patch attached in the bug report) and a 2.6.15-26-k7 ubuntu stock kernel.

In relation to modprobe, I'm not using any kind of parameterrs, just the default works well :)

Re: No headphone output on MCP51

Hi all

I also have an Asus Pundit P1 AH1 barebone ("nVidia Corporation MCP51 High Definition Audio" card, with "Realtek ALC 861" chip), like IK81 does. I've installed Ubuntu Dapper for AMD64 (using ALSA 1.0.10-4ubuntu) and I'm also having problems. No sound comes out of the box, only the box speaker beeps when expected :)

I'd like to try the solution proposed in the answers to the bug report xopen did, but the ALSA-Project web page seems to be down since last friday :( I'll inform you if it works.

I cannot access that computer right now, but I'll try to send more information later.

Hi "alucinado", I can connect to the ALSA site without any problem now, in any case, you could take a look at the sound card section of this report:

Re: No headphone output on MCP51

Hi folks,

Now the sound is working on my asus barebone. I have still no master volume control, but now there's a PCM volume control.

I am using the kernel and the alsa drivers coming with MythDora 2.32 with the following modprobe.conf

# alsa driver for onboard realtek 861 chip
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd-card-0 index=0
options snd-hda-intel index=0
options snd-hda-intel model=3stack-digout

# oss emulation
alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias snd-slot-0 snd-card-0
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss

Re: No headphone output on MCP51

Hi folks,

I'm a kind of Linux newbie, so I don't know if I installed the new alsa driver version correctly :-S The fact is that sound does not work yet :(

I've created a blog to document what I do to configure my Ubuntu 6.06 and you can see there what I tried: http://ah1dapper.blogspot.com/

Some information that can be important:
#uname -a
Linux barebone 2.6.15-27-amd64-generic #1 SMP PREEMPT Sat Sep 16 01:50:50 UTC 2006 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I have an Asus Pundit P1 AH1 barebone => Nvidia MCP51 card => Realtek ALC861 chipset

I would appreciate it a lot if you could help me.

Thank you in advance,
Alucinado
