question about nvidia driver for linux

hi! i have installed nvidia driver for my geforce go 7600 on my laptop. Nvidia web site report this: If you think there may be something awry in your installation, check that the following files are in place (these are all the files of the NVIDIA Accelerated Linux Driver Set, as well as their symlinks):

1. /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/nvidia_drv.o
2. /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libglx.so.x.y.z
3. /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libglx.so -> libglx.so.x.y.z
4. /usr/lib/libGL.so.x.y.z
5. /usr/lib/libGL.so.x -> libGL.so.x.y.z
6. /usr/lib/libGL.so -> libGL.so.x
7. /usr/lib/libGLcore.so.x.y.z
8. /usr/lib/libGLcore.so.x -> libGLcore.so.x.y.z
9. /lib/modules/`uname -r`/video/nvidia.o, or
10. /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/drivers/video/nvidia.o

On my laptop files 1, 2,3, 9 and 10 are missing. Is it normal ???
My operating system is ubuntu dapper 32 bit
Thanks in advance.

Re: question about nvidia driver for linux

Why didn't you just install the Ubuntu nvidia-glx package which provides the NVIDIA binary driver? ;)

Re: question about nvidia driver for linux

thks for answer. I can't install nvidia-glx package because i need of direct rendering and with nvidia-glx it doesn't work

Re: question about nvidia driver for linux

Hmm, sounds like you may have other issues, I've got direct rendering working fine with the nvidia-glx package for Dapper which is 1.0.8762 last I checked.

What does ls -la /usr/lib/libGL* output?

Re: question about nvidia driver for linux

1,2 and 3. check in /usr/lib/xorg
10. /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/drivers/video/nvidia.ko

Re: question about nvidia driver for linux

If you're not getting direct rendering with nvidia-glx, it seems unlikely that is going to change with the 'official' driver package.

As for why you're missing /usr/X11R6/, its because Ubuntu uses Xorg-7, which uses a different filepath.

At this point, I'm not convinced that you're solving a real problem, rather than a perceived problem. What is the actual problem you're having? Also, please generate and post an nvidia-bug-report.log.

Thanks,
-Lonni

ok thks at all for answers. The files are all in their locations :)
The problem is this:
When i run Opengl application like glxgears, i have a white screen with horizontal random linees and i can only reboot my laptop.
I thought the problem were missing files but it's not so.
I have installed 8774 nvidia driver

Ps i must compress nvidia-bug-report because it is bigger than 100k

Please generate and post an nvidia-bug-report.log. Also, what kind of laptop are you using?

Thanks,

Re: question about nvidia driver for linux

There's already a separate thread open for this specific laptop, where others are reporting the same problems. Unfortunately, I do not have one of these units here to reproduce the problem.

Why did you disable AGP with 'Option "NvAGP" "0"'? Have you tried NvAGP 3?
